I'd be quite happy hovering around the middle at the moment.

Agree with the above.

The squad is crap but Lambert manages to make them look even worse than they are.
The squad is shit but the core of quality players should be enough to see us as a solid midtable club with decent management.
Granted our better players, Guzan aside, all appear to be injury prone. That said our entire squad seems a mix of injury prone or unfit, and not much in between. Something in our training isn't right IMO.

We can survive missing our better players for a few months here and there, but after another season of scraping on by, those players will be desperate to leave for greener pastures. Being without the quality of Tekkers, Delph and Vlaar next season would be disastrous I think. That genuinely would notch us down to the bottom feeders in terms of squad quality on paper. Add in sub-par management and we could be breaking even more unwanted records.

This isn’t a top six squad, and for that you can blame the chairman. But it certainly isn’t a bottom six squad either, and for that you can only blame the manager.

This sort of succinct comment can only be penned by an astute and wise man👏

As far as I can tell, SVC has never been right about anything in his life ever.

Load of bollocks. Moyers would be first choice for Randy. Can't see it happening though. Collymore just trying to drum interest in himself. Cock womble.

The squad is comparable to any side who finished in the bottom half last season, while Benteke is significantly better than 90% of the strikers in the league.

We are a lot better than 15th.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2815490/Cristiano-Ronaldo-scored-19-goals-Aston-Villa-net.html

Ronaldo has scored 21 goals since we last scored (19 in this article, plus two more today)

You could do quite the list of things that have been achieved since Villa last scored.

You could go a week without scoring and look daft next to Ronaldos stats.

We are a lot better than 15th.

Tekkers is potentially better than 90% of strikers in the league
The squad in potentially comparable to any in the bottom half.

However, at the moment, neither are actually the case.

There should be enough in that squad to be able to play 5 games and gain at least a point and score a goal. To not have achieved either and concede so many is unbelievable.
Add the nature of these performances when it has looked like we are not even trying to compete tells you everything about this manager. I thought it was an uninspiring appointment but I never believed he would be this bad.

Villa has a crisis of identity at the moment.  What are we nowadays?  I mean, without the sabre-rattling of 'we're a big club' (I think we are too of course), what, aside from an illustrious history and big ground, have we to identify with that makes you proud?

I think this is where a good manager earns his money.  Although it ended badly, MON made me feel good to be a fan again.  Not from the offset in terms of results, but from the first minute he walked in, it felt like we'd collectively grown a foot.   Same with Little and BFR for different reasons and with Gregory too in his own way.   Since O' Neil, it's been fucking shit.  Houllier, McCleish, Lambert.  Sorry, but they've been shit, shitter and depressingly shit respectively and, in terms of the feel-bad factor, are up there with David fucking O Leary.

Also, to use our next opponents as a benchmark, what would the football media be saying if Spurs were battling relegation for the 4th time in a row?  Or Everton?  I can remember the latter doing just that for years, what has changed in the world since then that we are seen as fair game for this bollox?  It's what happens when your manager talks down your prospects for 4 years: everyone including the fucking staff believe it.

He needs a win tomorrow.  And he needs to follow it up with not losing for a bit.  Even them I suspect he knows the game's up.
