It is a bit of a surprise. Though I presume most managers' contracts are 3-4 years?

Don't quite see how some are seeing this as a sign lambert is going. Suggests just the opposite to me, as does the appt of Tom Fox.

We're basically two single forty year-olds settling for something, because the alternative is even less palatable.

Ha ha, that's about right.

On the bright side, TBAR will be in meltdown.

Oh God, I'd forgotten about those drama queens.

Hot off the press from a Founding Father over there:

Quote
Lamberts financial future was promised for his hard work for working inside the guidelines that Lerner set. Clear indication to me that things are on the move, just me, i do not care what other people think to be honest. Faulkners departure ties into this whole thing, it does.

Back, and to the left.

Back... and to the left

Remember this day. This is not good news.
Disagree completely - how do you get your best players to commit long term if your manager will not?

Seem to recall Pardew signed an 8 year contract which was derided. It transpired that there were break clauses included if certain criteria werent met i.e league positions. If targets arent met Pardew coukd be sacked without the full term of his contract been paid up

I would suggest something similar is included with PL.

I think this is it. You have to look at it in cash terms. If he's sacked and has his contract paid up - the net cost to the club is a couple of million quid. But if the  signals go out that Villa is an unstable club with no plan beyond the next six months - why would any decent player commit to us? The potential cost is far greater.

Good bit of business by Villa, tying Lambert down on a long term contract before absolutely nobody comes in and poaches him from us.

Thank God contracts are worthless

If you're asking the likes of Delph and Grealish, who have done well under Lambert, to commit, then they might be concerned that the manager's future was equally up in the air.

No manager has had a harder set of circumstances with which to work with. Some of the past three seasons has been very poor indeed, but the manager has got on with it, without complaining about fans or the chairman and the club appears to have started to turn a corner of late. On balance I think he deserves it.

To put it into perspective, Rodgers was moaning that Liverpool cannot compete financially with three or four other clubs, yet had spent £116 million. We spent less than 7% of that amount.

Is it just possible that this run of improved form we are seeing is mostly down to Roy Keane?. If he should move on, god forbid, I would suggest we would soon find out.

Pay him what he is worth....and quickly!

2 years not 4 in my opinion, it has been a good start but it is only 4 league games.

Lambert has struck the jackpot here.

Under NO circumstances would his performance over the last 2.5 years merit such an extension. Even our current predicament.

The fact that he worked for/with 2 clueless footballing buffoons didn't help but even that should excuse the performance in the League. McLeish got sacked for similar performances.

His abject performance thus far was only exceeded by Billy McNeill in recent times.

He can consider himself very lucky.  I am hoping there are significant break clauses with minimal compensation in the event of repeats of the last 2 seasons.

I have been much heartened by our start in the League - in fact exceeded my points expectations by 6. However this has been tempered by another woeful exit in one of 2 competitons we could actually win which has happened consistently under Lambert.

I don't mind him getting a new contract - maybe it was an issue in contract negotiations with Delph, Vlaar, Grealish that Lambert's contract was due to expire.

I touched on that yesterday. If they were all looking for stability before committing themselves, then it'll be worth it.

I wonder if we'll have any more news today, it is Thursday after all.
