We're basically two single forty year-olds settling for something, because the alternative is even less palatable.

Ha ha, that's about right.

On the bright side, TBAR will be in meltdown.

Oh God, I'd forgotten about those drama queens.

Imagine if, as the final whistle went at WHL last season, someone had said that before September was done, Roy Keane would be our assistant, Hutton would be one of our best players and have a new contract in his pocket, Senderos would be our new CH and look great, Lambert would have a new four year contract, and we'd be second in the league after 4 games with the best defence in the league.

It's why I love football, it's just mental.

Blimey..

I wonder what he'd have needed to do to get the sack, unveiled by the Daily Mail as Jack the Ripper?

Yes, but that was when he proved he could manage through deep cuts.

I'll get me cape.

It is bonkers.

If Lerner is staying and has loosened the strings a little on funds, which it appears he has, and it appears the new TV deal Villa are sensibly using more on the wages aspect than paying stupid fees for players, I can see the logic in keeping Lambert and letting him develop a side over time. To be fair this is the best squad we have had for a while now, if he is given the backing to sign the likes of Cleverley and still continue to build, then we could actually end up being sustainably back in the top 10-6 positions, which would be good going on our means.

I maintain Lerner is taking some seriously heavy medication. Nothing has made sense at villa for a very long time.

The staff have been informed. Takeover to be announced tomorrow. Again.

Part of me worries about Lerner's business acumen and silly penchant for giving overly-generous contracts based on short term performance.

Another part of me assumes that these Hutton and Lambert deals are our last-ditch efforts for the No campaign, spunking cash on Scots that are happy to be employed in the Union.

This won't stop Bill Gates sacking him if he underperforms after the takeover.

I wouldn't worry too much over the length of contracts for PL and AH. Both equate to a sum of money which you would expect to pay to pay to key components in a period of transition.

I note with interest that the contracts of Vlaar and Delph have not been sorted out yet.  That is far more cause for concern.

Reading this thread, I'd imagine there will be lots of fans on here when Lambert is sacked, calling for the return of MON.

When will they learn?

"But, but but.. he got us to 3 top six places, we went to Wembley twice and he was let down by Lerner not giving him the right money to spend. FFS we were almost in the Champions League".

Sometimes it's easier to chew and eat glass than swallow the bullshit. Does anybody know the exact date this month Mr Tactically Inept became the Savior of Aston Villa? My guess it was the day Coutinho hit the inside of the post.

I wonder if Villa Kicks said it and got whisked away to an asylum somewhere.

So now we reward failure, well done RL you are taking us to places I never thought possible.
Also please the answer is not back him or sack him, his contract ran to the end of this season, we should have assessed in December/January not 4 league games in.
Who else would manage us, they would be ten deep round the Holte end, we are still perceived by some quarters as a huge club, its just RL trying to dampen that impression.
God help us.

Bradford, Sheff Utd, Millwall, Orient, Chelsea 8-0, Worst Home record in AVFC's history,Worst premier league points haul, Worst goals against record in our Premier league record. 28% win ratio, 2 relegation fights, football as dull as dishwater.

Sit down Mr. Lambert , I want to give you a nice 4 year extension for all the success you have brought to Aston Villa football club.

Not bad for man who apparently was "sacked" back in May according to God Admin super ITK. However this four year extension is Newcastle style madness.
