Wow. Let's just hope it's a long-term change in fortunes on the pitch.

Maybe the contracts are a cunning plan to stop Lambert and Hutton defecting to north of the border on Friday

Manager contracts don't make all that much difference. It'll probably have a maximum pay-off so we're no better/worse off now than we were yesterday.

Disagree. I don't believe contracts are worth that much in football, so all this does is gives the air of stability to the club at a time when it's crucial.

The batshit craziness continues. Roy Keane to sign till 2018 next?

Debates about the merits of Lambo's deal aside, at least we're getting shit done now. I hope we'll get Delph, Grealish and Vlaar tied down soon.

If Lambo can put us on an upward progression this season and we've got something decent to build on, I'm all for it. He could yet turn out to be the manager most of us hoped he'd be when he signed on 2 years ago. Get him on a level field, and whether by someone else, or his own doing, he's not working with his hands tied behind his back now. Making things unnecessarily difficult.

Our squad now isn't too shabby. It's solid and mid-table, with leighway to cope with a few injuries. The last two seasons it wasn't. We've got to be finishing solidly in the middle at least this season and it'll give us a platform for the next few years to try and nip at the heels of the lower Euro spots.

Great move? Or another costly managers contract to pay off at some point?

Only time will tell I guess.....

So someone has only just now voted to sack him after he's signing a new contract? Right.

EDIT: 2 now! Seriously, who are they and what's their reasoning?

Seems Randy is here for the foreseeable
I think he seems to at least have decided that completely closing his wallet off will only lead to disaster. He seems to have loosened the strings a little now. And who knows, maybe he'll get a bit of passion back. We've come through the end of the O Neill hangover, and hopefully Randy now realises he doesn't have to go completely in the opposite direction. There's a middle ground between how O Neill did things and how we tried to do things in Lambo's first two seasons. Furthermore a competitive Villa side is a better sell than one that's persistently dangling over the edge of a cliff.

Getting Tom Fox on board appears to be a pro-active move, and how active we've been in sorting out deals since suggests the guy knows what he's doing.

Maybe this would have been a better idea once we'd gotten through our tough fixtures.

We've had a good start in the league in terms of points, but we should be taking points off Stoke, Hull and Newcastle anyway.  Liverpool was a good result, but it doesn't negate the two shit seasons that have gone before, or going out of the League Cup to Leyton Orient.

Very premature.
