He wouldn't turn Celtic down. No way. There's CL football. And it won't be long before Rangers are back to at least make a more interesting title race, or at the very least, Old firm derbies to savour. It's also virtually gauranteed silverware.

This what he said when asked about it when he was at Norwich:

"I had eight terrific years at Celtic but there comes a time when you have to cut your ties.

"I still look for Celtic's result and Seville will always remain the biggest disappointment in my football career. But the idea of coming back doesn't appeal to me."

While I'm not entirely convinced of Lambert, unlike some complete wet blanket types on here I can respect some of his handiwork despite some butcherings. Regarding the idea of reappraisal, one thing he'll really have to identify with is the types of purchases he makes. Some extra experience is an absolute must for this team. I feel he came unstuck with the Kozak purchase and while I think he'll make a decent striker he was perhaps anticipating/ expecting the January sale of Benteke. Along with defence, it's stating the bleeding obvious we need that creative spark in the middle. Barring more freak injuries, if he's able to identify those two areas with incoming buys, I think he'll/we'll stay afloat if not progress a little.
Tactically I'm unsure about him but what else can you do with the cattle we've got? The renewed backroom will be interesting.
"SOME COMPLETE WET BLANKET TYPES"? Ermmm clearly we are honoured  and lucky to have your precision and astuteness on here.
Why thank you kind sir. (Winky thing)

Wet blankets wasn't a reference to you, so my apologies, wires seem to have been crossed. I was however reiterating what you'd said about reappraisal without directly quoting you.

I didn't want to name names, it's understandable most of us are worried, but it gets tiresome hearing from the rare few in here who can't bring themselves to possibly say a good word about the club.

I can't believe such a shit-house of a manager could ever find himself in the position where he could choose to manage Villa or Celtic. Are both clubs so unambitious?

I think the majority of us wanted him at Villa – away fans singing his name.

Correct. Although usually followed by "out"

He also said a week or two back that he had no idea what Lerner was going to do but the other day he said he's known for some time he was selling.

He'd be nuts to turn it down if offered. He could be redundant in a month.

If he leaves for Celtic now then who in God's name is going to take the job at Villa? The uncertainty of ownership is going to make any decent candidates run a mile.

We'll be left with Sid....

...on second thoughts

If he thinks he can go to Celtic and turn out some of the results he got away with for so long at Villa......

I'd wager money he won't go to Celtic. Their current Manager looks to be jumping ship to join a Championship Club because he's unhappy with the transfer-kitty he's been given. He'll stay at Villa until we're taken over in the hope that the buyers will keep him on, give him some money to spend, and he can turn our fortunes around and iron out the current crease in his CV.

I'd put money on that being his plan.

I'd put money on that being the last thing new owners would do. Anyone buying the club would be more than aware of PL's  acute shortcomings and they don't need to be restated again. I much admire the man's dignity in the last few days, but  he's come up short as a  Villa manager and it would be no different at Celtic. He looks shot mentally and physically and it's to his credit - I know he's getting paid handsomely for it - that he's carrying on. A break from the game, whilst leaving us in a fix, would be very efficacious to him at the moment imo.

Completely dependent on what the criteria of the new owner/s are. If they are looking to immediately challenge for the top four and look at past performances and results, they may well let him go. If they look at PL maintaining Premier League status, cutting the wage bill, towing the party line when speaking publicly and staying loyal to his chairman, then they may well keep him.

I doubt it's going to be a City-style takeover, so my money is on the latter. It was very hard to defend PL during the season, but in light of recent events, I do think there have been some mitigating factors - and they are just the ones that have trickled out of the club. Who knows what else was going on?

Personally, I think things will work out fine in the end, we'll be taken over by the right people and we will begin the rise.

There you go, you can rest easy now.

I was suggesting he'd come up short at Celtic purely because at the moment, I think he needs a total break from work.

Finally. I've been waiting for weeks for an opening!
A while back, possibly Fulham, my weak-bladdered brother was, as ever, late back to his seat after half-time refreshment. On this occasion, unusually late.
"Where you been?"
"Chatting"
"Who to?"
"Steward"
"What about?"
"Lambert. He reckons Lennon's already lined up".

Just saying.
