I don't understand the howls.

This is the only rational course of action if the sale is not yet at an advanced stage - the current owner has to set the incumbent manager a clear budget and goal(s) for the summer and let him get on with it. Which he seemingly has. Randy can't just let things drift, or he'll risk his asset depreciating further.

No alternate manager worth his salt is going to take the job until the sale is sufficiently close to being finalised that the new owner is able to sign-off on the appointment. Like Randy and Doug did with MON. It doesn't mean nothing is happening behind the scenes, it just means we're not currently approaching the end game. Which is no surprise given the season only finished eight days ago.

My biggest concern for the last week has been that Lambert would quit due to the uncertainty and we'd be left trying to negotiate the close season with Sid and Shay in charge. Now THAT would have been a disaster.

I fear we may be pushing our luck too far with this. It's hard to be positive when faced with another season watching Clarke and Baker.

One decent Centre Half (Lescott), one decent creative midfielder (Modric), one goalpoacher (Bent) and retaining our other decent players, would see us through to mid table.

Is the Modric reference a joke?

Yes.  I couldnt think of one in our price range quickly enough.

I'd probably class Modric a bit more than 'decent'. I admire your chutzpah nonetheless.

The club's still up for sale. When it's sold we'll either get a new manager or a chorus of "Fuck off New Owner, the Villa is ours" within days. Until then the current owner is still in charge and will, presumably, allow the current manager to do the job as he sees fit. Nothing's changed and there certainly isn't anything to throw a fit about.

It's interesting that Lambert said he wanted to get 'proven players' in, that's at least a bit encouraging.

I want Lambert to go but this isn't the right time. Hopefully he's able to get a couple of quality players in to keep us up next season.

Mind you, end of this is a bit ominous:

Dear oh dear, what a shambles. We are stuck with an abysmal manager until someone someday takes us over eh? Great! What joy for Villa fans everywhere! Watch those season tickets fly off the shelves!

I'm not spending one more penny on Villa until the 'axis of incompetence' are gone. I'm just going to pretend football doesn't exist for as long as it takes before this total nightmare is over.

I'm sure there's a way of the club putting a bit of positive spin on the whole thing though. "This is an exciting time of transition for the whole club and, while uncertain, we'll be doing everything we can to add new recruits to the playing staff for the immediate term", etc.
