Randy likes Lambert a lot, so I don't think he was called to NY to be fired.
Also, I'm pretty sure that his last statement was made knowing that there would be the need to etch a plan whereby first and foremost, Lambert comes out clean (constrictions/ working in very difficult circumstances etc).

I reckon Lambert  went to NY to be told that he will have the remainder of his contract paid in full, with a nice little bonus for keeping us up.

Randy lets him resign knowing new owners want their own people in and it keeps Lambert's CV still intact.

I worked for newspapers for years and always dreamed of being interviewed by LL wearing next to nothing. The sensible conclusion is that he's spoken to a contact at the club and they've told him there will be a press announcement tomorrow.  He can't write a story about that but he can post something on twitter.
