Give him another half a season ? God just how bad does he have to be for you to want him gone?

Because as has been said there is something to be said for stability.  Now part of that is me holding on to the hope than Lambert can still do a good job.  Also, if you think about it unless we get a top manager or sign three or four top class players we are unlikely to have fantastic first half of next season anyway.  If we are poor during that first half and make a change at christmas that manager would still have enough of the season to have an impact.  I have my doubts over if Lambert is up for the job, but am willing to give him a bit longer to prove me wrong.
What a waste of a season that would be.

I can see why people are calling for a clear out but, given that regularly changing the manager has seen us spend most of the last 4 seasons with the threat of relegation hanging over, us there is something to be said for a different approach and trying to see what a bit of continuity coupled with the right backing can give.

And as dire as he has been this season if you look at the clubs who have made changes of the managers they have paid the price.  That could have been us.

I actually like Lambert.  I think he 'gets' Villa in a way that a lot of our more recent managers never did, he's never tried to be 'bigger' than the club, he's never disrespected it or the fans.  I think his intentions are honest, and good.

He has been given an enourmously difficult job to do, and he's been incredibly unlucky when it comes to injuries.  We've had some good wins, and what seems to me like an unusually large proportion of really good goals.

BUT

You can't argue with results, and I don't need to go over how bad they've been.  That alone is enough for him to go.

The really disappointing thing for me is I actually think he has a pretty good eye for players.  With a couple of exceptions, I think all the players hes brought in have shown at least flashes of ability and potential.  But Lambert and his coaching staff have shown no ability whatsoever when it comes to developing young players, and helping them realise their potential.

Thanks Paul, but it aint working.

I agree.

Although we don't actually know that and she hasn't said it, either.

I don't disagree entirely, but look at the manner of our defeats. Despite all that is documented we should not have capitulated as easily as we have in the games since Chelsea. The manager has to take responsibility for that. I agree with the need for stability and believe me I am not an advocate of changing without good reason. But the collapse has been far too extreme. After Chelsea, we should have comfortably eclipsed 40pts, but instead we didn't just lose games by the odd goal or through an unlucky decision. We were battered in a good number of them. That's simply not good enough, and as disappointing as it is to once again suggest change.

Probably the most depressing thing is that it is so easy to believe.

we've shipped three goals or more five times in the last nine games.

Yep, could well believe it happening on Twitter.

Having said that, I did think about checking Twitter out first, then thought "Fuck it, can't be arsed" Which obviously says a lot about me.

I think to stick with Lambert would be an act of faith and despite the evidence of the last two seasons staring us in the face.  I agree with giving the manager time in principle but, as has been said many times before, it has to be the right manager.  Most of the indications so far would suggest Lambert isn't that man.  To stick with a man who has taken us close to relegation in both of his seasons at the club merely for the sake of continuity wouldn't be the sensible move in my view.

If we get a banging rich new owner (dreaming here), I'd give Lambert a season to see how he does with cash. I doubt any of what I said will happen though.

I instinctively like Lambert. Like everyone, this time last year, I was really optimistic in terms of what he had started doing. I thought we'd get 2 or 3 players from a better level in over the summer and continue improving.

However, since then, all i have seen is long ball nonsense (we've played more long balls than anyone else in this league, according to Sky), tactical weakness, a situation seemingly allowed to run out of control at BMH, and almost a whole season of pathetic results and performances.

He's blown it, sadly.

Fair enough, but even if we do change the manager, is the investment going to change? Also, we'll still be stuck with the dross he's signed if a promising manager gets appointed.

This isn't me saying that we should stick with Lambert either - but where do we turn to from here? I'm pessimistic about a takeover, too.
