That's the thing for me also, at the end of last season we were attempting to play possession football and I had a lot of patience with the losses generally because we seemed to be aiming in the right direction. That thinking has gone the other way thus season and it's hard to defend losing football with such a difficult style.

I'd like to throw in my usual point on who the next manager should be - anyone as long as they are not Scottish. No more Scottish managers.

I would be more worried about Curbishley on the same odds.

Tim Sherwood at 10/1
Sam Allardyce at 14/1
Dennis Wise at 18/1

There's a lot of worrying that could be done based on that list.

To be fair, all of them (bar Wise) would be an improvement over Lambert.

However what we need is someone more inspiring who can, hopefully with the new owner, pull us up out of the shit and get us competing again. Klinsmann could do that.

I am not sure how you are able to have any informed opinion on Sherwood's suitability for Villa  based on half a season of managing a squad assembled for him and Allardyce, post Bolton, has turned fans of every club he has managed against him within weeks.

It just highlights the issue that sacking a manager is the easy part, finding the right replacement is the important bit and one we haven't shown much aptitude for in recent years. It is one of the reasons I am not as convinced as some of you that he'll get the bullet.

How can Fat ****** Allardyce be an improvement on anyone?!?!?!

As for Hoddle, out of principal, how could you appoint such a monumental bell end?

I didn't say I'd appoint any of them. I just said they'd do better than Lambert. Our squad is no worse than West Ham and they're 2 points higher than us, just as one example.

I'm just praying that we get a new manager in that makes people sit up and take notice. A statement that says we're gonna try and be a big club again, and not just bide time until we're in the Championship.

That requires a takeover though.

To hijack a speech from history:

You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!

Common sense.

If we are going to replace the manager, make sure it is a really progressive appointment.  Somebody that could take us into the top 8 with reasonable backing and a bit of luck.  I do not believe we will attract anybody of note unless there is big money to spend.

With Norwich only reaching 33 points we surpassed that total for survival in early March with the win over Chelsea. Obviously there is no way of knowing that at the time but it does show that little buffer we had was always too much for the majority of the teams chasing.

Now, whatever it is let us put in place a set up that means we aren't back going through all the same permutations this time next year. Most will focus on the manager but, in reality, it is having better players that will be the key and for that we need money to be spent.

I'm really pleased that my contract at work has been extended to 2015. Lambert's will hopefully be over by 20:00.
