Seeing as the relegation thread is closed, I am not sure where to put this. But I was musing this morning while ironing my shirt [that's right ladies, sexy and domesticated, I am the full package] is this is the earliest we have been safe for the past four years?

We went into the penultimate game at Arsenal and made ourselves mathematically safe under Houllier, as we did under McLeish against Spurs at home with the draw. Then last season we weren't safe until Wigan lost at Arsenal, so we had already played 37 by then, whereas this time we are safe having played 36 games. Am I right with that?

I think we'd hit 40 points by mid-april in Houlliers season so we weren't really that close in the end. By the end we were miles clear to be fair.
Last three seasons though it's certainly been squeeky arse time. As yet we've not gone into the final day needing a result. Thank Christ because I dunno if I could take it.

Au contraire. In McLeish's season we weren't mathematically safe on the final day.

Our goal difference all but made us safe though. I was never worried going into the Norwich game. That was worrying close though.
I'd absolutely hate going into the final game needing a win. That would be unbearable. Onwards and upwards after this season hopefully.

Last time was 1995 I think with close scapes in 1989 (West Ham has games left to play), 1991, 2003, 2006, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013

I wouldn't assume it'll be on sunday.

He just said after the season ends, that could be any time, I guess.

my guess would be Monday or Tuesday of next week. The fact that he made his "statement" suggests that there is already something ready to announce. I don't think he'll prolong matters any longer than he needs to.

I have been told to put my money on Moyes as his replacement.

Nice easy job to break him back into management.

That would be very underwhelming. We need a continental manager from spain, netherlands or germany IMO, and Moyes is just another manager from UK who has hit the glass ceiling.

If the rumoured takeover takes place, and the new owner gives the manager big enough warchest, we might be able to get someone like De Boer from Ajax. Maybe Bernd Schuster from Malaga.

I don't really want Moyes, but you would know what you are getting at a club the size of ours. In time he'd make us into a very solid if unspectacular team with a good home record. The football/tactics would be good at times but overall underwhelming. The question is what is his level of motivation? How much has the last 9 months damaged him? It wouldn't be the end of the world. If Randy stays then he'd be a solid appointment. If someone else takes over with some money it would be a case of couldn't we have done better or something different?

Isn't De Boer on his way to Spuds?

Schuster - well it would not be boring I suppose. He has a mixed record to say the least.
