Realistically, how many of the current Villa team would be dead certainties to get into any top ten side on a regular basis? Benteke, Guzan, possibly Okore, Nzogbia. Delphi would be in and out, so would Gabby. Bertrand isn't ours, but would. Vlaar would too but might not start every time. The rest of them are where the deserve to be: in the bottom six, because that's their level.

Guzan is one of the best keepers in the league. Steady, reliable and sometimes brilliant.

Vlaar is a good player hampered by some comedy defenders round him.
Put Okore and a genuine holding player in front of him he would be grand.

I see the telegraph are starting the  ball on Lambert going if we are sold.

I think anyone who reckons Guzan is "bog standard" is never going to be happy, frankly, so there's not much point arguing with them on that.

I'll be happy when Lerner and Lambert have gone. Then we can start getting rid of the shit they packed the team out with.
Vlaar has been better than he was last season. Guzan has been great considering the defence in front of him.

He's definitely improved on last season, but last season he was awful so it wouldn't take much to improve on that.

Why the love in for Collins and Dunne though? Did you miss the period between 2010-12?

What love in? I can't remember the last time I mentioned them. Tell you what though I'd rather that pair in the team than the abominations that are Baker and Clark, and even over Vlaar as well.

In the Dunne thread when he left you were criticising people slagging him off saying he was an excellent centre half for us. Pretty sure you were critical when we sold Collins aswell.

You must have an agenda against Vlaar if you think his performances this season have been poorer than what those two were producing in their final two seasons here.

An agenda? Christ it's only an opinion of a footballer (who I don't happen to rate). He's improved on last season, but he still isn't good enough for me. If we are to be taken over and have significant investment I'd like to think we'll see a complete new back 4.
I don't see what's so controversial about having an opinion.

Dunne and Collins were a disgrace towards the end.

One was a fat wreck, the other was a prick who thought it was ok to lay into the club's coaching staff, including Sid.

I'm with Saunder's Heroes on this. One win that keeps us up and too many people are seeing the world through rose coloured spectacles all of a sudden.

Great day yesterday, abs loved it, was the last to leave the ground, massive relief etc etc.

But wake up and smell the coffee please. Our team is shite. Our squad is shite.

Being part of the 6-0 at Newcastle when Carroll tore us to pieces was the start of his decline here. It's easy to forget how badly defensively we were for large parts in 10-11 and also under McLeish which was embarrassing given how defensive we were.

Colli s was a liability on the pitch too. Dunne was so far overweight it was embarrassing at the Albion when he was brought back from injury. Neither are as good as Vlaar.

Dl9 no one is under illusion. I would happily replace all but about 4 players.

So anyone thinking Guzan and Vlaar are decent players needs to wake up and smell the coffee as they looking through rose tinted spectacles? And only think so based on one result?

Well, that's told us then.

In fairness he had a very good game that day that got us a crucial point that kept us up so I'll give him that one. Probably what sums him up was his last appearance at VP against Spurs, pretty solid for an hour and then recklessly dives in on Modric which gives away a penalty. That was the thing with him, whole hearted but as his pace decreased resulted in more lunges to give away free kicks/penalties and of course own goals.

Collins I just thought was overrated, always thought Cuellar was better in central defence when he played there during that period.

He had a lucky day and was woefully off the pace for the first half hour.

That's what you've told then, I didn't mention either of those two players merely the team and squad in general. I think the Premier League table will back me up on that next Sunday night.
