Oh please, I couldn't care less if he's Mother Theresa, he's done an appalling job and deserves the sack. I can't think of a single reason as to why he shouldn't be sacked as soon as the reason is over.

Terrible terrible job.

Seconded. One win over a team with three-quarters of an eye on a Cup Final and a limited team anyway doesn't gloss over the rest of this appalling season. I agree he's probably a nice guy but he just isn't clever enough to get us remotely near where we need to be.

Lambert should be removed. He simply is not good enough for the job.

I doubt the replacement picked by Fred and Barney will be any better.

Hypothetical question (apologies if it's already been asked): If we manage to get a win in our next couple of games (Spurs, if not on the beach, have definitely popped their towel on a sun lounger and headed to the breakfast buffet) we could realistically finish 12th. We'd have taken the scenic route, but how many would have been happy with a mid table finish at the start of the season? Will there have been too much damage done throughout the year for Lambert to be judged on our finishing position?

I think after the stresses of the last couple of months we may very well be on the beach too

You have to look beyond the actual finishing position as the league is so tight at the bottom finishing mid table may only be a couple of wins from the relegation places. Just remember the rubbish we've endured pretty much all of the season, including a record number of home defeats. I'm not necessarily advocating Lambert be sacked however. I still think Lerner has to take a major share of the responsibility for our position.

Agreed that Lerner must take the main proportion of the blame for such a disappointing season but Lambert sure hasn't helped himself with his School yard tactics and dumbass comments.

I was a Lambert supporter until the Palace game where the shear weight of poor results said to me enough was enough.

This win though most welcome, doesn't change that.

Would we need to reset it yet again if there was a takeover?

I think he's gone anyway. No way would they sack/suspend his 2 right hand men without repurcussions for lambert who is their line manager.
Probably did a deal that says you stay til the end of the season you get some sort of pay off everyone leaves with a clean slate . Just my opinion of course.

Then there is no point keeping him for the last 2 matches.

But if a deal has been done suitable for all parties ?

A club with the stature of Aston Villa should never, ever have to go until two games from the end of the season to guarantee safety from relegation.  Never.

Nobody would bat an eyelid if we lose our last two.

That happens we could easily finish 17th as Sunderland can get 4 points from their last two, WBa would need 2 draws and Hull would need a draw.

17th is not a final position any Aston Villa manager should be surviving.

That's true Tom, but neither should we be paying peanuts wages on unproven players, and trying to get by on a bloody shoestring for nigh on four seasons.

I'm a bit torn at the minute. If there's new investment, then he should move on, but if not I'd still keep him.

If there isn't any investment, and if the current financial regime continues, then it won't make a huge difference if we change manager.

I do wonder, though, whether there is now a credibility gap between Lambert and the fanbase, and if it is possible to survive that.

And that, given the shit we've put up with for too long, is not something to take lightly.

I do wonder if my judgement is a bit clouded though by the fact I just like the bloke. He doesn't come close for me to some of the cockweasels we've had managing us, yes we've been largely shit, but he's a the shittest hand of any manager we've had since I've followed the club, and we, and he have at least fucking tried.

At the end of it all, it's now been made crystal clear what his remit was and he has succeeded, again. If he goes, I'd say good luck to him, he can hold his head up.

I agree with you Lee. He's (theoretically) done all the dirty work, it seems fair to let him have a crack at the fun stuff (if that's possible).

That. For all the shit he rightly has to take a major part of the blame for on the field, he was frankly under a clear mandate. I like the guy - and would not be adverse to him being given one more year, with the right level of funding, to see if he can build some momentum. The next few months will be interesting either way

With regard to the performance of Bowery, and perhaps Weimann too, I can't help but think (hope?) that the input of Cowans over the last few weeks has helped.
