There's a reason he went. I don't get the Laudrup love-in - the cloud under which he leaves every club should be enough to cause a bit a caution.

As many have said, he deserves no sympathy, he is just no good at his job.

Yes the bigger problem is Lerner and Faulkner, but despite that Lambert has been given enough resources to achieve better than the humiliating results and performances that has been served up.

Lerner said it unequivocally in the week, Lambert is working to his instructions. If we had kept key players fit we would probably be in a comfortable mid table position but the enforced policy of buying only players who do not demand high wages means we have little resilience in the squad. As has been clearly demonstrated in recent weeks, it is a strategy fraught with risk and unless it changes one that will inevitably eventually takes us down.

As one of the more positive  posters, it's sad to see you say that.

Sad, but probably accurate.

I do still think there is validity in signing players who see Villa as a step up in their careers, rather than the likes of Dunne, Ireland, Hutton and co.

But we need someone capable of spotting those kind of gems to execute that strategy.  Lambert can't.

It is, if the major purchases are playing - unfortunately we haven't been able to put them on the pitch often enough this season. We've got a mid table first team but a bottom 6 squad.

Sack him now. Why bother persisting with him? What is he bringing to the table right now? I don't think anybody could do any worse and they might just do slightly better. Slightly better might be enough.
I'd do it now and give whoever takes over a week to plan. So I guess it would be Sid.

It's a point where with the current results AND the sacking of his right hand men that him going surely has to be an option to help the team for the last 3 games.I can't see what benefit it does keeping him around other than to have someone for the fans to vent at

I imagine they may not be sacking him based on not wanting to pay him off. Maybe there's a clause saying sub 40 points after 38 games and you are out ?? Just a thought
