I understand that this is a bad time to be defending Lambert. But we didn't think he was awful when we got him from Norwich. His biggest strenght is probably counter-attacking tactics. At our best (sadly not often) we have been one of the best counter-attacking sides in Premier League. He is also not a bad judge of talent; a lot of the players he has signed have decent qualities (Lowton, Westwood, Bennett), but sadly also have too many short-comings to be consistent Premier League players.

Among his short-comings are his complete ability to organise a defence (which, probably, is also related to our lack of confidence) and his refusal to acknowledge that even a young and hungry side needs players of proven quality and experience (even if only to make us play better at our worst and not losing our confidence completely).

Not to confuse things: I agree that he has been a failure at Villa and feel that it's a given that he will leave in the summer.

I'm waiting for a few to come on here later and say that we are all doom-mongers. It ain't going to happen though. Surely, there can be no defenders of this regime now. I don't thrive in it. We are an unhappy family travelling back tonight. It doesn't normally get to me like this but it does now. When you have devoted so much of your time and money on the club, then think of the rich fuckers dining out at our expense, not giving a toss, then it does piss you off. We are unlikely to go down but the league should make a special case for us this year. Put the bottom three down plus us and let someone else take our place who gives a fuck. Fuck off Lambert and fuck off Lerner!

I've taken enough over my stance on Lambert, but let's leave the taking sides out of it.

Not trying to start another fight but his signings have been bollocks. If they had been decent we wouldn't have been in 2 relegation fights in a row, broken so many bad records I cant be bothered naming them and look like the version of Wimbledon that got relegated. £43m and most of it pissed away, saved by the Benteke find.

I'd prefer McLeish to be in charge for the last three games, I can think of no more damning indictment on Lamberts season.

I'd be confident of 0-0 a draw out of the Hull game with Mcnobsack in charge. With Lambert I expect a defeat and us to stay up thanks to others.

Watching Gabby walk off at HT laughing and joking was gut wrenching. I've always been a gabby fan as he's "one of us" but that was hard to digest.

Lambert has lost the thread of what he should be doing. Downward spiral that he is unable to control. He looks like a beaten man and should be put out of his misery. He is absolutely not in control of the unfolding events. Randy muttered something about loyalty, Lambert should recognise the mess, realise he isn't helping the situation and do the decent thing. Now, THAT, would be loyalty. Fall on your sword please Mr. Lambert.

2 seasons and 4 transfer windows and here we are at possibly not being relegated due to other teams having too much to do. Add to that today's defeat and Stoke, Palace, west ham and Fulham. It is not acceptable despite all the caveats about constraints Lambert had to deal with. Lambert has lost any authority he had in the dressing room and has failed spectacularly on the pitch. Time for him to recognise that and walk away at the whistle at the Spurs game. Enough is enough. We deserve better.

I remember Sir Graham Taylor saying when he came into Villa that the cub was in a bad place from top to bottom, well I think we need a football man more than then, NOW.

It's ok, I can take that people don't agree with me. I have no particular interest in defending him or trying to be argue with those who think he is shit. But he seemed to be a decent choice when we got him, and I struggle to understand why he has been so poor. Maybe he is an awful manager, but his record when we got him (and a few matches at Villa) tells me that maybe he isn't.

I find it hard to understand how he has been so poor, too, but that doesn't change the fact that he has been precisely that.

I was strongly in favour when he got the job, too.

I even managed to remain in favour throughout last season - which was awful, despite us remembering mostly just the decent run in - because I could see mitigating circumstances and improvements beyond results.

This year, though, I can't think of a single reason for him not to get the sack.

It's not even that we need to think of a reasons to give him the bullet - try writing a list of reasons he should keep his job. It's difficult.
