Ron Vlaar is the definition of overrated imo. If he has a good world cup I wouldnt be averse to letting him go if a good bid came on. Poor captain and injury prone.

What makes you say he is a bad captain?  I've always been impressed by how he looks after the players, particularly the younger ones.  In fact you could argue that when he plays the team/defence is a lot more organised which may be a testament to his captaincy skills.

In my opinion, the form of Ron Vlaar has been one of the very few unmitigated positives of the season- a man amongst boys at times.

I'm not sure there will be an exodus of players. The top 5 or 6 teams will be looking elsewhere for their talent, I suspect. It's when the team actually starts playing better and getting better results that we need to worry.

Re the Telegraph / Pat Murphy 'breaking news', the club can spin it whichever way they want, but if the team continue to lose the anti-Lambert sentiment will grow and become something that cannot be ignored and ST sales will just not happen for next season.

Lambert may say some of his transfers haven't worked out and he's going to start afresh but by but god his style of play and "tactics" have been equally as bad. That 45 mins at Liverpool and the odd spells in other games have showed we can pass the ball around. Why he hasn't tried this style on a regular basis is beyond me. I cant help but think if in the unlikely event he did buy some top players he'd still be playing the same unimaginative 4-3-3 counter-attacking formation (even at home) and playing the worst football sincethe sport was created. It just sounds like a desperate man asking for another chance but I think under him - and Lerner - we'll be in the Championship sooner or later.

I really don't think he is that good. Just about ok to keep hopeless Heitenga out of the Dutch team.

We've got some serious problems, but Vlaar definitely isn't one of 'em.

agreed and even the pr bullshit isn't consistent. Dark mumblings from mates on SSN on Saturday of major transfers being blocked by the board, exactly the same implied line from mumbles himself post palace, a regurgitation of the TSM speech from two years ago from Paul Mark 2, and now a leak of major investment come summer if only we're nice to them long enough to get the club across the line. You know what? None of them deserve even to be vilified with the word once removed. Their not warm or deep enough.

Where's that from? I know Pat Murphy tweeted something to that effect earlier.

Have to say, I'm pretty depressed about this. The guy is absolutely terrible tactically.

Murphy was on Radio 5 earlier and said the exact same thing as the Telegraph.

Sounds like a leak doesn't it?

I guess its good news that the club are willing to spend money again and I would imagine at least one of the promoted clubs would take Bent off our hands, which would free up £60,000 a week you would imagine.

We're desperately short on quality. You can name about 5 players that you feel confident in to be Premiership quality and its just not enough.

Strange how the Telegraph are always the first to break with Lambert related stories.

The Americans call it back channelling don't they?

Whatever the case, they need to invest.

I agree. He's one of our best players but just look at who we are comparing him with. I often thought the same about Kyle Walker. Yes, a good player but never quite what he was cracked up to be, he just looked a world beater in our pretty awful team at the time. I think his form at Spurs tends to have borne that out overall

I'm not sure how i'd feel about Lambert been given more money. I don't mind the players that he's brought in too much but the Palace game was the tipping point for me. Tactically, he's got it wrong too many times for my liking.

I think that may be right. Occasionaly he doesnt look as safe as a centre half should. To be fair to him he doesnt have a partner he can trust. That may be playing on his mind. Consistent more than top class. We should be grateful for that.

Agree about the lack of a consistent partner - should have been Dunne last season and Okore this season, and instead he's been shackled with rookies Baker and Clark, who are at best squad cover. I think we'll see the best of Vlaar when Okore is back to full fitness
