Lerner is culpable but I don't believe for a second that he spent all summer and January putting the kaybosh on every deal for a half decent player Lambert wanted. That's absolute bollocks, but I suspect Lambert and his cronies, at some point after their inevitable sacking, will peddle the myth as far as it'll go.

Just as Mcleish painted keeping Villa in the Premier League as an achievement in itself after he was fired then so will Lambert. And, assuming we manage to keep bobbing along the bottom of the Premier League like a Coventry or a Wigan for a few more years, so will the next manager. And the one after that.

The old cliché is it's a results based business. Results have been crap. On your bike Lambert. He has no defence, not good enough over 2 seasons. Think we'll wait for the summer but pretty sure it will happen.

I'm just hoping that Lerner realises it's not a good idea to gamble with a football club. If we get relegated we could be financially wrecked. Once we've got the likes of Bent etc off the books, hopefully this summer, we've got to start enticing better players here.

McLeish of course is a fine example. He made it sound as if he'd done well here, that he felt he'd improve things in his second year had he been given the chance. The reality is he's a poor manager (at this level). I think we've seen this with Lambert. He had his second season and he looks set to at best match the mediocrity of last year, at worst, relegate us. I think McLeish may well have taken us down had he stayed.

If Lambert goes he'll of course be adamant that good times were just around the corner. For my mind though, and many others, a third season under Lambert more than likely ends in disaster.

We do have to break the cycle though. Fresh management. Fresh approach and a bigger summer budget. In addition, in terms of the young hungry part of the gameplan, which I don't disagree with at all, we need to use our academy as opposed to cheap youngsters from abroad and the lower leagues. Why pay out for average players when our academy can produce average-good players? The Sylla's and Tonev's of this world may not have cost a fortune, but duffers like that add up when we've got our own production line of (I'd wager) more talented players coming through.

One thing, I am not going next week but if you are, please don't boo during the game it is detrimental to the team. Surely you want them to stay up? Save it until after.

Is there really any need for that kind of nonsense?

There isn't, is there? What is the point in going out of your way to rile people?

Definitely agree with the bit in bold.  I still advocate that changing Lambert might not do anything to shake the malaise that has engulfed the club over the past four seasons.  There are changes needed at every level of the club, with fresh ideas and a different outlook being installed.

This.  All we need is three points - even if we go a goal behind keep behind the lads and get them over the line.  We have the players to get us the points.

On the bright side, Southampton will have plenty of the ball which might allow us to do our one tactic - counter attack.

Yes, frankly.

Where are these happy clappers to whom you refer? You make it sound like there's a stubborn cabal of people who refuse to see something you see.

On the wider point, we've had a shit weekend, we're all absolutely gutted at another pathetic performance from a team which looks very much like it is getting worse, so why would you possibly want to actually make it worse by inventing some non-argument about "happy clappers"?

Aren't you unhappy enough? I know I am.

Charlie Nicholas of @SkySportsNews claims #avfc had deals in place for holtby, barry, lukaku and coutinho. Collapsed at board level! If true should the anger firmly be aimed at Randy?

charlie nicholas is doing for lambert what Oliver Holt did for MON

I think we have entered a phase when Lambert starts to play the victim in the saga.   He knows like MON and TSM before him that the owner and the board don't fight back and the line most likely to enable Lambert to stay in management somewhere near the top flight is "they would not back me."   The obsession with secrecy at the top at the club will allow that line to be spun unchallenged and the fans will be left hating their own club.
