Lowton was often played in MF for Sheff Utd

But Villa are a much better side than Sheffield United.....

Trouble with Lowton this season is we've seen almost nothing from him in the attacking third. If he's producing that, as Bacuna does, he could mask some of his defensive deficiencies as he did last season and Bacuna is doing now.
That said, a few more exceptional goal line clearances wouldn't go amiss. I thought he was one of our better players against Fulham. I'd keep him in the side as, for better or worse, he's one of our most technically able footballers.

he's clearly got some off field issues that have affected him this season. I thought he had stepped up quite well into the PL. Yes he made some defensive errors, and that was something that he had to work on and improve. His attacking ability also kept the opponents left sided players honest in that they had to account for him at all times. His anticipation, control, composure and delivery for Weimann's goal against Sunderland was outstanding and as good as anything we saw from an attacking full back in the PL last season.

If Lambert is so willing to play Bacuna at right back (or Bennett or Bertrand in midfield) then i see no reason not to try Lowton wide right of a midfield four

We know he has a football brain, can cross a ball and also hit one

Or even try him in the centre with Delph and Westwood

Apparently he's impressed by Baker's form, which is a concern. Baker's positioning problems were massively highlighted against Stoke, he was dreadful.

I think it should be the other way around, with Bacuna up the middle.

Lowton was good last season but has been poor this one. It happens I suppose, especially in England where you don't really get substantial breaks in the winter to gather yourself and refocus - you just have to go and go and go, so quite often you can get on rolls or into ruts in form which last the whole season. It happened to Petrov, and he came back better than ever, so I'm hopeful Lowton can get back to his best next season - we've seen him perform well, so there's no issue with his potential.

And why do you think he said that publicly?

You know, I don't mind that he said it so much, I suppose he has to say it or he ends up like Di Canio, having a go at his players in public and generally alienating himself from the dressing room. No, my problem is much more that he really appears to think it.
