"this is a football club, not a hotel"

In a nutshell, Nail on head, Bang to Rights etc etc...

That's got me singing House of Fun, "This is a chemist, not a joke shop".

Interesting and spot on.  Over £200M spent and the team is arguable no better than the Dolly/Ellis team.  We have become insignificant and I can't help but worry about the damage done to the image and reputation/standing of the club long term.

Interesting his comments comparing Hughton's record at Norwich vs Lambchop's at Villa.

It would be stupid to sack any manager at this late stage of the season. Unless there is someone on the clubs staff who would be competant enough to take over the reins with immediate effect it cannot make sense. If you bring in someone from the outside it would take them a month at least to find out what the hell is going on.

Leave it to the summer. If we stay up get rid of him. If (god forbid) we go down get rid of him. Randy probably has a sign on his desk in his cave in the Catskill mountains that says.. the buck stops here. Or then again perhaps he doesn't.

It probably isn't going to get better for Lambert now. He's in a similar position to where Mcleish was two years ago - Mcleish was without two key players (Bent and Petrov), had a rag tag team full of reserves and youngsters and an inceasingly hostile fanbase. Lambert faces similar things looking at the team that went out to face Fulham. I'm not saying pull the trigger now, because a new manager would have the same squad to work with, but all I can see is a painful struggle to drag ourselves over the line, and increased frustration and resentment that might make Villa Park an ugly place during the last couple of home games.

I believe a lot of us are thinking how big a gamble it is to go into a season with a manager you are far from convinced is the man for the job. I reckon Randy Lerner and Paul Faulkner would be more likely thinking what a gamble it is to get rid of a manager you are still some way from thinking is not the man for the job.

I'm sure someone posted that Hughton/Lambert comparison on H&V in the last couple of days. Probably either this thread, the relegation one, other clubs managers or quite likely the Hughton one.

Starting next season with Lambert in charge is a mental idea. He's had two seasons, enough is enough.

Where does the £200m figure come from? It is hardly relevant to this thread given that he has spent less than a quarter of that amount.

Agree, Damo. I'd also imagine the personal relationship comes into it too. Randy seems to be very happy, trusting and probably loyal to Paul Lambert. I really don't expect him to want to change and imagine he sees Lambert as a long term manager that needs his support in getting the club back on track, both on the pitch and financially.

What he's counting on is the unconditional loyalty of the fans who have been brilliant again this season. He may be in for a nasty surprise over the summer when he sees the season ticket sales.

I do believe that it is a misnomer that season ticket sales will plummet. As has rightly been said, our fans have ben magnificent all season and continue to come in their thousands. Historically, even during worse times like this, we have still managed to maintain our season ticket sales and there is still a big enough Premiership pull to ensure that we won’t see a collapse of the ilk that will worry our board. Worst case scenario would be a couple of thousand who don’t renew and a couple of thousand down on match day tickets. We would end up with a Villa Park averaging under 27,000 per game – Wouldn't be the first time and I doubt it will worry the board.

I can see the board keeping him for next season until the season ticket sales start coming in and they wonder why a lot of people are not renewing.

Possibly, but when it comes to it the choice of going down the match or trudging round B & Q with the other half then suddenly Villa Park will seem a far more attractive proposition. In fact they could use that as their next marketing push.

Seriously, my guess is that whoever is in charge unless we spend the sort of money that makes it look like we are serious then season ticket sales will suffer.

For the benefit of Richard Moore, I saw some of my pals yesterday evening, and the general consensus was split between giving him till Christmas and replacing him in the summer.Nobody thought it would be a good idea to sack him now.

So there you go Richard, I hope this helps.

I think would make sense for most people. I'm quite torn on the whole thing. I get giving him more time, and allowing him to spend some proper money and bring in some better players versus giving that to someone else who can build from the summer onwards. Off course the best case scenario under option one is that he spends the money, addresses some glaring needs and we're not having these discussions this time next year. I'd like to see improvement over the next 6 games to sway me entirely to the give him more time camp.

Maybe to change tack slightly, but can you imagine a scenario similar to 2009/10, where he spends money, patience is thin and we lose at home to some non-entity first game up?
