I don't necessarily disagree, but the "Doug wouldn't have done this way" stuff pisses me off.

Doug was an utter arse that used this club for his own ends, and he's responsible more than any one person for the sea of mediocraty I've witnessed as a supporter since 1985.

Well I've been going down Villa Park since March 1957. Doug Ellis and Pat Matthews dragged us sceaming into the modern world and for that I remain eternally grateful.

The problem is that this dismal period we are going through is unlikely to be the first chapter in a Children Of The Revolution part 2.

I'm inclined to let him stay till Summer but no longer. I know we will not attract a top manager but I refuse to believe we cannot get someone who can get more out of these players. I don't wish Lambert ill and fully recognise the brief he has had to reduce the wage bill but I do believe he is out of his depth Eddy Howe worth a punt?  At least his teams seem to play football.  Somehow I don't think Van Gaal fancying the Villa

JP I agree Southampton didn't have a problem but what they did have was an outstanding crop of young players AND a commitment and available funds to invest. I think that's a big difference to the current Villa set up

Soton did not have a problem getting someone .

Sometimes you need the right people at the club to make the right decisions , which we do not have.

A lot of this season I've been having a debate with myself as to whether we have an ok manager held back by crap players, or ok players being held back by a crap manager and coaching staff, and I think yesterday decided it for me - its the latter.

Now the problem we have is this:

Does the manager deserve to be sacked - Yes
Are there managers out there that are available and could do a better job - Almost certainly

Does anybody think the board is remotely capable of identifying and employing one of these new managers?

I think this is the biggest problem that everyone sees in the option of sacking the manager.

However we really cannot carry on like this anymore and we have to take a chance that on the law of averages they might actually get someone reasonable and get the club motivated again!

They could also easily end up with someone who is far more shithouse than Lambert is.

I have gone with in the summer unless things improve. Although I am not sure after yesterday if a handful of good performances and results at the fag end of the season is a good enough indication of better times to come under this manager. I think one of the biggest arguments for keeping him has been to avoid another managerial search, turnover of coaching staff and players. But there comes a time when things have reached the stage that a change is needed. I am at the point where I can't believe another manager could not get better results with the current squad. Look at what the likes of Pulis and Strachan have done with seemingly hopeless cases like Palace and Scotland. I only use them as examples of managerial changes, I'm not saying I want them at Villa. Is it worth giving a Cowans and McAndrew partnership a go until the end of the season? Other than that I think we need to look at foreign mangers as not too many British names inspire me.
