Took the words off my mouth Richard.

I can't believe how dumbed down our expectations have become Archie - two wins a row has become almost the equivalent of getting to a cup final. Down here where I live, we have become a joke club and a complete irrelevance to boot. We just make up the numbers

My sentiments entirely richard, well said.

What is acceptable at Aston Villa has been on the slide for a good few seasons and we all know it.

I can just imagine them pissing themselves at the Villa as they watch Bognor Regis.

He needs the opportunity to bring in the next tier players over the summer, having done the long yards in terms of building a squad. Now the first XI needs strengthening where the likes of Weimann are not  playing week in and week out with their deficiencies in terms if inconsistency exposed.

I said elsewhere that this league is so tight that a few decent players, such as Southampton have in their starting line up, really sets you apart.

This season has in some ways been more annoying than the last. We keep stopping and starting, with players lacking any sort of consistency.

Football is an incredibly simple game; quality is all that counts and we don't have enough of it week in week out.

I am confident though, that with Okore and Kozak back, with three or four 6-8 million pound players, that we can detach ourselves from this 12th-10th milaise we have been bogged down in all season. This is where most of us predicted we would finish and hope we would finish, but I don't think we took into account how wretchedly annoying it is to watch a side splutter around this neck of the league.

I fully expect us to sign at least 3, then it will be time to fully judge Lambert. If we are still serving up the same then that is when I will say enough is enough.

Its all very well adding a few decent players, but if the tactics and coaching don't improve neither will the team

That's why I say it is make or break for me. Assuming we sign what I expect us to, then barring some major freak run of injuries, there will be no excuses.

I think that is right PWS. If we cannot kick on with the better quality of player, then I think we thank him for steadying the ship and look for somebody else to push us on.

That's it really.
It'll be absolutely essential for Lambert to keep Benteke too. Lose a player who's a 20-30 mill quality player on his day, then even getting 3, 6-8mill standard players won't be much good to see us kick on.

Benteke may have looked more Benteskey today, and for large parts this season, but he's still comfortably our top scorer and we need to keep hold. Replacing him will cost an arm and leg and a great deal of luck too.

If we were to sell Benteke, then i'd expect more quality players coming in. The 3 is based on him staying.

Same here.
There are many people, me included (it goes without saying),  that spent much more than the cost of a season ticket to come to England to watch this rubbish.
I cannot understand how English fans can accept it with all this resignation, as if we were Burnley instead of the mighty Villa.
In Italy fans would have done the revolution.
Ok, this is the opposite excess, we are too passional for football, the tranquil English approach to football generally speaking is much better, but I would have expected some more reaction from the Villa fans to this sh*ite that we must swallow.
In my opinion, the  situation is very similar to the one that there was in the AML era, but in that case the bored and angry fans had the merit to provoke the sack of the manager.
Why fans are so "supine" now, in your opinion?

Sure. But my issue is that adding 3, 6 million quality players to our existing squad should be feasible and (hopefully) relatively simple.

Replacing a 20 million pound forward who'll get comfortably into double figures every season takes some doing. We'd have to pray to the footballing gods that we find another gem from somewhere. Otherwise even if our midfield finally improves we'll not have the firepower up top to make use of it.

Thing is, if done right, by upgrading in a number of areas then you don't need one superstar. Imagine half a dozen goals more from two players in the Gabby/Weimann roles just as an example. Those 12 replace some of what you'd lose from having a more profilic CF than we'd replace him with. I hope that makes sense, it does in my head, honest!

It's a mystery. Being a fiery Celt means I can see where you are coming from!
