Proof is in the pudding, as they say
I think they say that the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

And the pudding in this case is a football.

And me. The sacking talk was nonsense and if anything, simply increases the chances he will walk away when the big job offer comes his way - I could not really blame him either though

You think that because lots of people on the internet wanted him sacked, and because the team got booed when failing to win back to back home games for almost four entire years, Lambert is thinking "first really good opportunity, I am off"?

I think he's going to make his mind up on far more concrete stuff than that - like what he can do still to improve us, the support he's had from the chairman, how he feels things are going.

It's amazing. Two wins ago, there was a cacophany of people saying he should either get sacked now or in the summer and he was doing a poor job, fast forward a couple of weeks, and people are talking about him being driven off to the first big job that comes his way.

The fact is, to even get considered for a "bigger" job (and let's be honest, there aren't that many of them around usually) he will have to do an excellent job here. Not a passable one, or an iffy one, and not one that just involves getting Villa to mid-table, but significantly better than that.

If that becomes the case that he's achieved those things, then I think everyone will be happy, but to start worrying now about what happens if he does seems hugely premature.

I can't ever remember opinions of the manager on here being as fickle as they have been over the last few weeks.

On a wider point, over the past three seasons there have been times when there's been a surge in people wanting the manager out. Randy has not panicked and  has stuck by the manager, even in the darkest days of TSM. He's had mixed results when recruiting managers but should get credit for not being swayed by the crowd and taking the easy option. Clubs such as Fulham and Albion have suffered due to having nervous owners.

There's about as much chance of Lambert being offered a job at one of Europe's elite as there is you and I being offered it. He's improved us overall in a some ways and there is much work to be done elsewhere. But nobody outside of B6 has actually paid any real attention because we've not achieved anything at all. Until he wins with us and wins and competes consistently he won't be considered for the biggest jobs in Europe. It's about as non-sensical to think he'll just bail on us as it was people shtting it the day he arrived that within a couple of years he'd off to Bayern or Dortmund. Like you said, two weeks ago he wasn't good enough to manager Yeovil.

If nothing else Lambert has proven resilient to get the club back on track and to a relatively safe mid table position after 18 months. He isn't going anywhere anytime soon because I am sure he'd admit himself, there is a mountain of work to be done.
