Thought Moyes looked terrible in his post match interview after the Dippers game - thought he looked tired, almost ill.

Saying that, much as I still think we should stick with Lambert (especially after sticking with him this far) if things don't pan out by January next year the timing, the club and the manager might see the stars align for David Moyes and Aston Villa.

I hope they don't as it'd mean we'd be struggling but I also think he'd do a great job with us.

I agree with a lot of this. Moyes would do a good job for us - he's turned Man U into Everton and he'd do the same for us given time, which, in respect of their league position over the last eight or nine years, would be no bad thing. But it's not going to happen.

I can see Lambert actually turning us into a kind of Everton in a sense that Villa will be slow starters and strong finishers to a season, as Everton were under Moyes.

Moyes' future success will largely depend on how he has treated the press.  I'd imagine that whilst at Man U he's too precious to piss off however if he is being a 'See You Next Tuesday' then they'll be VERY quick to ridicule him and make any future position impossible.

Look how quick the press are/were to pounce on AVB for example...

Is there anything more to that other than "he's a bit foreign"?

Something that I don't think David Moyes has to worry about.

I think that had a fair amount to do with it (someone recently ripped a part Martin Samuels for how inconsistent he has been about his reporting on AVB v Sherwood).  The pundits on the Guardian Podcast frequently seemed to imply that other journalists found AVB unfriendly and unaccommodating and therefore were happy to twist the knife once they could.  Whether that was due to nationality or what he did to our national treasure Super Frank I have no idea.

Why would any body want Moyes as a failed manager at Manure and the deep scars that would inflict.

One of theproblems with Moyes is that he is a defensive manager, when he, the team is in trouble he gets more defensive more cautious, Ferguson was the opposite he was aggressive offensive.

Under stress people tend to revert to type and to their default status. A defensive cautious wounded Moyes is the last thing we need.

Moyes managed a similar sized club to villa at everton and kept them around the top 6 for a long period on less money than villa managers have spent  in the same time - he will soon get a job if sacked by man utd .

Would suit clubs the size of villa, newcastle or spurs , but out of his depth at united.

Eastters stop talking like those arseholes at Sky. I expect better from you. If he can't do it at Manu given all their assets why would he do better when he has less armour up his sleeve? Looking at Everton playing this season you could argue he held them back.

I admired the job he did at Everton and maybe they will go backwards under Martinez over time, but at this moment in time  there is a strong case to argue that he held them back in some ways.

Seems to me that they're playing a different way, but getting more or less the same results and will end up in roughtly the same place in the league.  Call that holding back if you like, but it's not to me.

People like to say that if you're not moving forward you're moving backwards, but when you're in 'upper midtable' like Everton are, staying stationary is an achievement.

I'm not knocking what Moyes did there are what Martinez is doing there, just saying I can't see a great difference results wise.

Moyes is such a great manager that the only proper trophy he has won in 16 years as a manager is the third division title.

I don't count the Charity Shield before anyone points it out.

He isn't a great manager but he did well at everton considering the budget he had - he's not good enough to manage at the very  highest level in my opinion but certainly if he sacked there will be no shortage of offers for him.

As for Martinez he has done very well but without the loan players barry and lukaku everton would not be in the top 6 .
We can see what the effect of losing lukaku has had on the Albion , and he will be a big miss next season .

As concrete says , everton will probably finish this season where they have finished last season.
