I know I am as guilty as the next man in contributing to it, but does anyone else read this thread and find themselves suffocated by a monumental tsunami of sadness?

I wish I liked F1 or some other sport where you are insulated from caring too much by the fact the rules keep changing, it is about technical nonsense like cars and tyres, and there is less team allegiance.

I know someone will weigh in and tell me I am patronising F1 fans and all those bell ends who pay 300 quid a pop to sit there in their Ferrari baseball caps trying to get emotional about tyres but, honestly, I don't care.

It must be easier than this shit.

And probably more fun, too.

Supporting Villa is like being chased around by some scabby, yappy fucking dog. It gets on your tits, spoils your quality of life, gives you no pleasure whatsoever, yet you can't bring yourself to do the sensible thing and just throw the fucking thing under a bus to make it go away.

Brilliant mate,

Renault has confirmed that its 2014 power unit ran in an updated configuration "without any reliability problems" during the Lotus filming days.

Following Villa is really no different to smoking cigarettes for a number of years only to wake one morning to find that habit has morphed into crystal meth, or realise your best mates with a Bunsen burner. You can receive as much treatment and counselling as you want but inevitably you can't give it up. Your brain becomes mush, you live in denial and you spout utter bollocks in justifying why you do it. Every new day shortens your life at an accelerated rate. The worst part being just as one ulcer sudsides a new one starts to form just as the weekend arrives. One day the weekend won't arrive and it will be peaceful at last.

Given the performances during his tenure (club record defeat, 3 losses to lower division teams, dreadful football) the man should hang his head in shame.  Never mind a new contract he should be considering his own position.  The thought that this has even been broached with him is laughable considering we are in a relegation fight and could easily slip down.  We're going to have to rely on 3 teams below us continuing to be even worse than us - we may be lucky, we may not.

You really do have to wonder at the coaching that goes on there.  Pulis seems to have knocked Palace's defence into some semblance of form relatively quickly, Poyet has got a few wins at Sunderland and Fat Sam has 4 wins on the bounce at West Ham.  I'm not saying they're better/worse than Lambert but they have effected some sort of change - on the other hand our manager has perfected consistency at a very shit level.

People keep telling me to just stop bothering to pay attention. If I was the kind of person that could, I would have done so years ago.

I am not as bothered this year as I was in previous years. The worst for me was the McLeish season. I became a nervous wreck towards the end!

This season is much more 'meh' for me. Fed up of this shite. Fed up and if we drop we can have nobody to blame. If people at Villa Park can't be arsed sorting this shite out why should I give a fuck?

I'm not 'meh' about it, but the way the club is being run there is an inevitability about us going down sooner or later.

I think he means that he's getting more used to Villa being in a relegation battle, which is a damning indictment at the state of our club over the last few years.

Got to admit I'm feeling a similar kind of apathy.  Of course we're still going to come on here because we're Villa fans and we stick with them through thick and thin.  At the same time when you're flirting with relegation for a 4th season in a row you're going to start feeling a bit worn out.

And in all my years supporting Villa we've never gone this long with such a poor team. 4 relegation battles on the trot. Ellis at his worse was never this bad, yet still no protest from the fans.

Maybe you assume right, but it really gets on my nerves when posters come out with things like 'I'm not bothered' and 'If they don't give a fuck, why should I?'. He obviously cares enough to come on here and post god knows how many times since Sunday. Of course he cares, we all do, otherwise we wouldn't be on here discussing it.

Spot on, I barely get any enjoyment from the Villa these days, just worry and anger but I cant leave them alone, pretending to not care about the result or trying to skip finding out what is going on doesn't work for me. I'm addicted.

Pulis and Allardyce and better more experienced managers than Lambert.

Not saying i'd want them either long term but they have proven to be better than Lambert. Which says something considering how much we take the piss out of them.

Thanks, that's exactly what I meant. I can't control things. I think we all fretted over every sort of permutation the last two seasons and I am just trying not to get sucked into that this year. I felt in previous years relegation would be unjust either because managers were underachieving with the players we had or because we were trying to sort our wage bill and would get things right eventually.

This year is different for me. I feel now we are getting what we deserve for failing to address the problems that have been apparent.

I do understand your point clampy. 'Care' is a tricky word. Of course I care as you point out. It's a bit like a troublesome friend. You care and it breaks your heart. You try to help, you know they are good deep down but after a few years of let downs you just become slightly numbed to the whole thing and wonder what more you can do.
