How recent is that quote, Rudy?

If he said it when he was starting to make waves at Norwich, he might have had designs on one of the Sky 4/5 jobs.   That's unlikely to happen now, so a few standout fixtures against the top sides in the early stages of the CL and a walkover domestic league might be right up his street.

It would be interesting to get a few polls on this.  Those who think he deserves a new contract over those that do not is an obvious one.  But I bet there are quite a few people who -like me- don't want to see him sacked, but wouldn't be heartbroken at all at the prospect of him moving on in the summer.

I get the argument about stability, wanting to see what he can do with better players coming in during the close season.  But our weaknesses this season and last run a bit deeper than the personnel on the pitch.

Celtic is a big club, but it plays in a piss poor league. Yep, you get to play a handful of CL matches every year, but really, I am not sure the SPL is the level an ambitious manager would consider a step up from a PL club.

I certainly find it hard to see it as enough of a draw (again, not the club, but the whole "package") to attract a manager from Villa to Celtic.

In the past I'd tend to agree , but with the premiership as it is now and the finances it's hard to see how lambert could hope to compete in the top 6 at villa - at Celtic he would be guaranteed champions league football and close to his kids who I believe still remain in the Glasgow area.

Although to be quite honest I'd be happy to see him depart to anywhere.

I'd prefer him to be here in August as that would mean we haven't been relegated. But a new contract? After Bradford and Sheffield and the worst run of home form in living memory he should really resign with a statement of apology.
If we go down he will be the right man to bring us back up, ask Randy...

Relegation would certainly be hailed by Faulkner as a strategic masterstroke.

Guaranteed CL football for a short period of time, almost always.

I still think managing pretty much anywhere in the PL is a much bigger deal than managing the biggest club in Scotland.

This is the first I've heard about his kids being in Scotland. I don't think going to Celtic would help him come back to England at a club currently seen as bigger than Villa unless he did very well in the Champions League which is unlikely. MON only cemented his reputation there by winning titles when they had only won two in the previous fourteen years and getting good results in Europe. Doing well domestically whilst Rangers are out of the picture won't massively impress Premier League owners and chairman.

Neil Lennon batting his eyelashes at Norwich tells you all you need to know about where Scottish football ranks for managers with ambition.

Faulkner would hail the Captain of the Titanic for providing lots of readymade free ice for the drinks bars following the collision with the iceberg.

I don't think Lambert would be sacked even if we got relegated though he may be tempted to jump to the safe ship of Celtic if we did.

The Scottish league has always been a bit of a joke. If it was Police Academy whilst Rangers were still providing at least a two horse race, since they dropped down it's become more akin to Police Academy 7- Mission To Moscow.

My bad. I got it off a Celtic forum yesterday and did search the Daily Record to get a date on it but couldn't find it. Just googled a few lines and the quote comes from 3rd March 2010.

I was on the phone with a potential client in Glasgow this morning, had a chat about a few things as you do.  I mentioned I am a Villa supporter and how I wished we could walk the league like Celtic have done etc.  He came out with a good one, his son works at Celtic and had told him that Lambert is off to Celtic in the summer to replace Lennon (being lined up by another premiership club). Deal as good as agreed and that could be the reason why no money was spent in January as Randy wants more available for the new manager in the summer.  No idea who it could be though.

This would be absolutely great news if Celtic weren't my second team. Still, i'd take it just to get him out the door here

He separated from his wife a while ago   and the family live in Scotland, whether he would be tempted by a return to Celtic who knows but it may be a strong reason if he was .

Do you bore the arse off everyone on the Celtic forums moaning about Neil Lennon as well?
