You would have thought that he could have got stitched and then come back out.

That might have been the plan. However, we were down to ten men we conceded and I don't think Pepe was willing to wait any longer at a point when we were getting over-run.

He appears to be a doubt for Sunday.

He possibly won't play for you again then, Liam.

If he sentence/ban is decided next week he may not play for anyone again.

Does Olsson ever stop complaining to the Ref ?

Loved it when Clattenburg took his time to fill in his yellow card and made Guzan wait to take goal kick, when Olsson was moaning about time wasting. Ref had a very good game.

it was also Clattenburg who pushed Nafti out of the way when Young scored in the 5-1 win against noses. He also reffed the game when we won 1-0 at the noses soe he'd done ok for us in local derbies.

Anelka was a terrible signing. He joined the Tescos and then almost immediately started talking about calling it quits altogether. I'm not quite sure how much motivation this man has left. His motivation has always been questionnable in any case. He's staying on probably to pick up his paycheque every month. Aside from a couple of goals against West Ham, which he then went and spoilt with "that" gesture, he's looked well past it.

He should just retire. Le Sulk really doesn't need any more money. He clearly, more often than not, can't be arsed. He's a bad apple and the Tescos should get well shot of him asap.

Watched it last night not knowing the score. Massive win in so many ways, Benteke back to form, now 8 points from relegation, a home win and many very good performances.

Put paid to all that crap about them being the Team of the Midlands, oh yeh right.

The match reinforced the view that we need a defensive midfielder to help protect the back 4, and with this I think we could be a decent team.

Bertrand shows what a difference a decent player can make, would love to keep him.

I liked Lambert's reponse to being 8 points from relegation that we were 5 points off Southampton in 9th. It will take us to have an almighty collapse now to be properly sucked into that battle and for it to coincide with at least 8 of the 10 teams below us to miraculously turn their seasons around.

Pre-match, walking down the Witton Lane past the Holte End, it made me smile to see the big Tesco sign all lit up!

I think we'll be pretty comfortable. There's no way we won't pick up another 13 points this season, and even then, 40 points will be more than enough to survive.
With our front men hitting form at the right time now, I'd expect us to hit 45-50ish points come May. Maybe more.

confidence is a massive piece of all of this and right now we are playing with as much if not more of it than at any time during the season. Even at 2-0 we fought hard and won the game. Add in the displays against Arsenal and Liverpool we should be looking up and not down. Benteke gives everyone so much belief and it really puts the opposition on the back foot in how to deal with him. Throw in a bit of Gabby coming back and a reviatlised Weimann we will create problems for anyone we play. Clearly we still have some issues that need to be addressed but we are in a much more secure position this January than last.

I was trying to explain to my oldest son what a 'quenelle' is and he didn't believe me. The political detail was kind of lost

Just tell him the original meaning then Damon - it is a sort of dumpling. That would sum up Anelka just as easily.

I think we'll be fine now, we should be looking up and to improve our football on a consistent basis.

Bertrand shows what a difference a decent player can make, would love to keep him.

Pat Murphy was asked about him and said that in interviews he seems to know the Villa history and is very happy to be here. Said he was genuinely aware of our position in the history of football and was gald to be playing - he is 24 now and needs to play. Murphy said there was an option to buy in the agreement.

I was very impressed with him last night.  It made the chaos and inability to hold on to simple possession on the right even more apparent.

Having quality full backs is much more important than it used to be and I'd go as far to say that getting a decent quality right back ought to be a higher priority than a midfielder.

We dearly need some players with a little composure and Bertrand has that. Holt too.

I think Bertrand will boost this team's collective intelligence quotient, which appears to be a bit on the low side.
