That is absolutely tragic. To have that childhood and lose two children. The only thing that raised a half smile was BFR showing how clued up and streetwise he was by paying him direct.

Nice as it is to know that we didn't contribute to the guy's misery, it's still a horrible story.

His goal against Wigan was class.

Heres a load of goals he scored the year before we signed him. And he still couldn't get a game at VP, BFR favoured John friggin Fashanu instead!

He did look good against Wigan, always surprised me he never had more of a chance. And yes I know Wigan were spectacularly shit (they were near the bottom of division 4 at the time for our younger fans) but still.

Jimmy Greaves raved about that Wigan goal for ages and to be fair to the old xenophobe, he knew a thing or two about goalscoring.

In early 90s I read quite a lot about Nii Lamptey and the way he made the trip to Europe -World Soccer seemed very interested in his development. His progress at Anderlecht seemed phenomenal given his size and the fact he was only 16 but after he moved to PSV his that progress seemed to stall.  I was still surprised when he signed for Villa as his reported talent suggested he was destined for a big Italian club. The way he and his career was manipulated is, probably literally, criminal.
