amazing to think he was involved in such a dangerous profession for so many years and he suffers this injury through recreation. Hope he makes a full recovery but the early signs are not good. A good bloke from everything you read about him.

It is amazing that a skiing accident could do for a professional racing driver of many years. Mind you, a couple of them have died in helicopters and road cars over the years. I always thought there was something likeable about him for all his faults. It didn't sound too serious on the radio earlier, then I heard a later bulletin. Let's hope he doesn't go the way of Sonny Bono, Natasha Richardson and Michael Kennedy. Mind you, when your one of the Kennedy's you might as well do what you want, the grim reaper will get you sooner rather than later anyway.

It could have been my perception, but a European reporter (possibly German) who was just giving his views on Sky News was barely able to contain his excitement over it all, including his description of driving through the night to get to the French hospital. Most reporters seem to manage to disguise their excitement when reporting on serious celebrity items, even though I imagine many are ecstatic at getting such a big gig.

F1 isn't a sport that interests me, but I've never had negative thoughts about Schumacher, he's struck me as an intelligent man, good at what he did, without being pompous.

I arrived back from La Plagne yesterday. A skier was killed in our resort while we were there (off piste but not far from the main resort) and there's already been about 5 deaths this season in the French Alps.

If Schumacher pulls through it looks like it'll be the helmet that saved him. They really should be made compulsory for both off and on-piste skiing.

I was amazed at how many parents take their kids skiing without helmets.
