Villa 2-4 Liverpool 1998
« on: December 23, 2013, 10:26:26 PM »
I know we lost but still one of the best games I've ever been too. It had everything. Dublin on fire scoring goals for fun (if only he'd tucked that penalty away though), Collymore playing well despite not scoring and eventually being redcarded, and Paul Merson showing glimpses of the form he'd consistently show the following season. Pity about the defending though but Fowler always scored against us. Me and my dad were in the the Lower Trinity that day and I can still just about see where we were in the shots just before Liverpool's fourth. Anyone have any memories of this one?

Liverpool were their longest odds for a long time to win a game. 3/1 if memory serves me but that doesn't seem too generous.

End of our unbeaten run under Gregory for that season I think. I was in the upper Doug Ellis. Seem to remember Michael Owen using his elbows at one point and me getting irate about it to the point that a steward felt the need to have a word with me. Two days before my old man passed away.

Remember it well. In truth it was the beginning of the unravelling that season although we kept the pace for a couple more months before the wheels completely came off. Fowler was a nightmare to play against, always bloody scored. James always seemed to play well for them against us as well.

Same here.   Dublin looked so brilliant on his first goal, completely awkward and ungainly on his second and the least said about the Penalty the best.

Look at the quality of the Villa squad - this was under Doug's reign compared to the dross now under Lerner's reign. Well done Randy! Bright future??....

Can't you give it a rest just for one day?
