It's slightly embarrassing to be given a lesson in free-flowing passing football by Southampton, while we're paying tribute to Wimbledon circa 1989, but somehow, we're winning it. As Jmmy Greaves once said, it's a fucking bonkers old bastard of a game, innit?

We won't win many games if we keep being this poor in possession, that has to change. I hope we play better in the second half or the odds are we'll concede given how much of the ball they're getting.

Just watching Gabby's goal again - great run and really composed to go round the defender and lift it past the goalie. Good goal

Whilst Soton haven't been fantastic, especially in the final third, I can't say I'm not jealous by how they play football under this new fella. They were okay under Adkins but not anything like this. They've not spent a huge amount and they've up from a couple of league below quite rapidly. Should they really look this much more composed than us when Lamberts had a whole season already of rebuilding?

They spent over £30 million pounds in the summer. They are also currently only two places above us in the table. And losing to us. I'm not that jealous of them.

Said it before, I'll say it again: without Gabby, we aren't half as good. He's been so valuable to us for so long now. I think we take him for granted a bit.

I like winning games, but I'm not too convinced of this as a way to carry on playing this season.

We are woeful, just woeful in possession.

Where is that Faulkner statement from the day McLeish was sacked? Didn't it say something about the standards of Aston Villa and the need to be competitive and dynamic?

I think we will all be happy if agricultural football keeps us well clear of the drop zone. However, if things hit a bad patch and we come near the bottom three, fans will be mightily pissed off because it is easier to forgive bad results if the football is decent.

To be honest, if we're going to improve and start to pass the ball better after January, then I will take this horrible stuff until then. It's better to be passing badly and giving the ball away a lot but picking up points than it is to do so and not pick up points.

I hope it improves, though.

It's a good score line but we badly need to get on the ball in the second half and KEA, Delph and Westwood need to do something.
