I like the AV footballers in Fives but am I right in thinking that Alexandre Villapane was the captain of France at the 1930 World Cup but was later shot as a Nazi collaborator?

Mr Shin is now in full celebrity mode. He's even got a hat sponsorship deal with the stall opposite the car park gates !!

Listening to all the fuss yesterday about Hull City Tigers, the fans and owner I was thinking how history versus money was probably the one debate most likely to cause heated arguments between a club's fans. So it was interesting and also slightly spooky to sit down to read H&V last night and see  Stuart Griffin's very good piece, 'What Price Success'.

The forgotten story of ... the France football captain who murdered for Hitler
Alex Villaplane said captaining France was 'the happiest day of his life'. Fourteen years later he was shot dead for being a traitor.

Didn't Houllier want a similar thing done to Ginola?

Thanks - I remember reading about that somewhere - The Story of Football by Martin Tyler I think - but I couldn't dig the book out to check.
