The suggestion of bringing on Herdy is a good one. Problem is, PL sees him as a centre half :-/

Baker....has he been rape drugged or something? What's up with him?

I'd rather put Herd left back bombing on, Clarky replacing Baker
Delph replacing Ahmadi, gabby replacing Tonev

This is like the polar opposite of last season's fixture. Hopefully we come good in the second half. I think we need to bring some of our better players on. It's only 45 minutes and it's no longer the points that matter. We need to give a decent account of ourselves because we've been shite so far.

I'm just hoping we can reverse the position from last year. Of all the players we can bring on I think Delph might be the most important, if he's fit enough.

Followed perhaps by gabby.

How depressing.

It is odd that we've kept an unchanged side despite having so many players back.

I think you can see that Albion are used to playing in that formation and with those players though.

Hard to blame the players - the general set-up of the team is as clueless as I can remember seeing for a while.

Benteke, our biggest weapon, dropping deep? He's not a creative mid ffs, his strength is outmuscling the last man and getting on the end of things.
Kozak playing ahead of him, with no support? He needs a nippy forward to play around him, that's 'big lanky immobile striker 101'.
No wide men? With two big strikers on the pitch? Eh?
The slowest midfield in Christendom with three players who are unbelievably shite in the opposition half?
Clark on the left? Again? Hasn't Lambert bought TWO left backs? Where are they?

I like Lambert, but you have to call a spade and spade, and this is a really shit spade so far.

Too many of our players simply aren't good enough at this level. Getting comfortably dicked by Albion - ALBION ffs. What on earth has become of our club.
5 years of mis management...

In fairness, the club is getting exactly what it has planned and budgeted for. Mid-to-bottom of the table drudgery.

Sylla and Bacuna don't like being in possession of a football which is often a major disadvantage for a football team. Not good enough, nor will they be.

Sylla, Westwood and KEA barely do one midfielder's job between them that's the problem.

Carragher and Neville have just said the reason for Bacunas mistake is due to us trying to play a bit more like Barcalona and that mistakes will happen.  Both had straight faces at the time.

The midfield does look very average indeed.

I was hearing Charlie Nicholas on Saturday talking about how much he liked midfielders running beyond the strikers and it got me thinking when was the last time a Villa midfielder linked up the play with the intention of running beyond the strikers? It's but one of the reasons why Westwood and El Ahmadi are a complete waste of time.
