One of my few memories of Turner being quoted was in the Argus. He said that too many players were resting on their laurels and loved the life of a footballer but for them Saturday afternoon wasn't the highlight of the week, but a time they approached with trepidation. I am paraphrasing after all these years obviously.
Funnily enough, Pete Davies said something similar about professional players a few years later in his brilliant book All Played Out.
