But suddenly, they have 2 better seasons than us ( the 2 worst seasons we've had for decades, incidentally) and people I know who haven't been down the Albion for years are suddenly rushing out of the woodwork and acting like they've been loyal fans since the dark days.

Obviously not that many of them, mind, given that they only managed to sell 21k tickets for their cup final this week.

I am aware we're no strangers to empty seats, but the difference is, we don't play in a poxy little 27k capacity stadium.

and we're not currently in our most successful spell for over 30years, quite the opposite in fact.

While queueing to get into the Arena HawthornAmazonia on Monday I enjoyed some jolly banter with a steward. I'm now far wiser by knowing that 'it's not our cup final as we're above you' and ' if wolves are bigger than us then blues are bigger than you'.

I have to say though their celebrations for the goals were reminiscent of the blues crowd at the Enklemen game and it wouldn't have been very pleasant had it carried on. It made the comeback more enjoyable.

Nice try Albion, have a pat on the head.

I've just browsed their post-match thread, and this caught my eye:

"All in all, it was there night, but we remain unbeaten in 6 against them (when they last beat us One Direction weren't even a band to put it into context) and we look forward to doing it all again in January"

Where do you start with that?

Yes, I noticed that one, too.

That's pretty remarkable.

It's like saying, "to put it into context, the last time Man United beat us, twerking hadn't even been invented"

The last time they won anything, Showaddywaddy wasn't even a band.

The last time the Baggies won anything, the Beatles were still 6 months away from releasing the White Album

Just like to say fair play to Liam for not reacting to some of the comments aimed at him.  I couldn't give a toss what an Albion fan thinks of Aston Villa and i'd expect them to feel the same re my thoughts on their club.

That One Direction comment has made my day. Nothing has made my day more since us coming from two goals down about thirty nine hours ago. Just to put it into context.

It's imagined by opposition fans - "that Aston Villa think they're something special". Thats not because we go on about it, it's because we are. As I write that I know it sounds arrogant, but the truth is, we live with that level of expectation too, there is nothing us or you can do about it

Superb and as accurate as can be, also if the shite that surrounds us wasn't so poor themselves then we would not be considered the "Kings" of the Midlands.

Remember when they had a "great side" in the 80/81 season - they finished 4th in the top English division - brilliant for them

Where did we finish again?

Their fans in the Milleninum Corner were desperate to try and get onto the pitch and come towards us, but lacked the bottle when their second went in.

It was very amusing walking down the aisle at the end past the slack jaws in the Smethwick End doing their nut, as laughed at them.

That is beyond belief! I hope he/she was joking. Actually I hope they weren't come to think of it.

I'm not sure why Liam's description is that hard to understand, possibly because I come from the middle of no-where where most people (probably 75%) of fans support Man U.  Therefore I'm in the minority and have to endure the smugness/arrogance from man u fans the whole time, kind of like what Liam has described.

…And if we had a 2-3 year period of finishing above man u I'd love it, even if the two clubs were finishing say 6th and 7th respectively (i.e. not "successful" by any stretch).

Agreed Dante.  Reading some of the postings on here made me think exactly the same with some of the comments that so-called "fans" of Man U and Liverpool come out with.

If I went onto another club's forum and said what that lot have said I'd expect to get ripped to bits as well.
Thats what I thought from the offset. Why come on here and say it? Of course its going to wind people up.

Totally different. The reason that most of the people near you are Man United fans is because they're glory hunters, pure and simple. I'd love nothing more than to gloat to some Watford-based Man United fan who's never set foot in Old Trafford. I'm not sure you could ever accuse a Villa fan of being a glory hunter. Misery hunter, maybe.

And another thing, I never ever remember gloating and being arrogant to Albion fans when they were shit and bumping around in the lower divisions. But suddenly, they have 2 better seasons than us ( the 2 worst seasons we've had for decades, incidentally) and people I know who haven't been down the Albion for years are suddenly rushing out of the woodwork and acting like they've been loyal fans since the dark days. And they take the piss out of Wolves fans for doing exactly the same. They've got a chip on their shoulder and we're the convenient scapegoat. Fuck em! call us arrogant while they're waving a Pride of the Midlands banner after enjoying 2 mid-table finishes. You couldn't make it up.

Relative to supporting WBA, supporting Villa is the easier option in the sense that we'll always be able to reflect in the 'glory' of being in the premier league and occassionally win a cup (well kind of).  So it's different, but not completely different in my opinion.

I also think that most man u fans on an individual basis are okay, but in their masses they appear to be arrogant arseholes.  I'd guess that villa fans probably come across that way too.  Of course we're not arrogant arseholes or glory hunters but can understand that we'd be precieved that way by a Baggies fan.

The flaw in the argument is that we had the same from Coventry, and even Leicester, who aren't actually near enough to "have it rammed down their throats". Kids is Coventry and Leicester didn't grow up tormented by arrogant Villa fans in the playground surely? Yet the same bile, and disproportionate crowing at minor victories comes from all corners of the midlands.
It's imagined by opposition fans - "that Aston Villa think they're something special". Thats not because we go on about it, it's because we are. As I write that I know it sounds arrogant, but the truth is, we live with that level of expectation too, there is nothing us or you can do about it.

Absolutely. That's the crux of it. They tell us we've rammed it down their throats for years, but have we? The Villa fans I've known have always had a soft spot for Albion, I did a few years back too. I was always happy to see them promoted and it was a shame when they were relegated. I just saw them as a 'nice' club. Nothing patronising, no arrogance about our position in relation to theirs, just a "they seem ok, don't mind them doing well" kind of afterthought. Indeed, I've only ever met one match-going Albion fan.

I'd love to know where are all these Villa fans are who supposedly 'rammed' our successes down their throats? What successes? We've had nothing to crow about ourselves for years and are constantly told by opposing fans, Adrian Chiles Toby Jug of Piss included, that we're the biggest moaners in the Midlands. Make your minds up; are we arrogant, or are we perennial whingers? It's akin to the whole We'm a little club fighting against the world & FA, no wait, Pride of the Midlands We Know What We Am bile. As Dave often says, they appear to want it both ways.

Nice to see Liam's finally showing his true colours after he's got some comments for his tinpot 5-posts-a-day website, though. He really doesn't like us very much...

Traditional Kits for both sides. Albion lining up in their famous Blue and White with the Vile lining up in their Claret and Blue.

Quote from: Liam
Their defeats came against Man City and Chelsea where Villa conceded a total of 13 goals. 8 (eight)(1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) of those against Chelsea!

Quote from: Liam
I would go into in-depth detail about their history, but anybody who knows a Villa fan has probably had it explained to them 683059382258 times before and therefore I won't bore us all by posting it and we shall move onto the next topic because the way they go on about it I'm sure we know it just as good as them!

Quote from: Liam
In June 2012, Lambert ended up at Villa Park after Alex McLeish was removed of his duties. His biggest defeat so far came away at Stamford Bridge where Chelsea put EIGHT past "Lambert's Lions".

As for this one...

Quote from: Liam
What I did enjoy about the night was the set of boos at half which could have been heard in London.

I'm pretty sure the half time boos last season passed over the Channel and reached Calais. You were either booing your team and manager off the pitch for the umpteenth time last season, or it was a 45th minute boo to signify the number of years since you'd last won anything. I'm not sure which....

And as for us referring to you as small time, something that I've noticed is a bit of a bug bear for Albion fans. Well, you are....You did an applause in the eighth minute because a team you're obsessed with got beaten in a league game, you bring out DVDs when you draw and win football matches, you hold anniversary dinners for a team that won a league match at Old Trafford(!!), you sing the name of a former player who couldn't wait to move on from the club, you celebrate your manager being taken by England by holding an England day at your last away game, your sponsors make a banner with We Know What We Are written on it and your fans and players alike hold it aloft. Every song you sing mentions Aston Villa Football Club, your players wear under-layers with WKWWA printed on them, your kit man writes We Know What We Are on footballs and constantly lies to your own supporters about how many fans you're taking to your away games because he's so embarrassed about your shit support. You only take a following to Aston Villa and take a few hundred supporters everywhere else, yet can't sell out at home (for the third season running, I'd hasten to add - what's that about TV, kick-off times and ticket prices?!) in a game your own players describe as being like a 'Champions League' tie. Everything about your club is small time and tinpot. Let's make that abundantly clear.
