In the 'old' days our fans in The Trinity used to help out with the atmosphere by clapping and stamping their feet.. (as seals do). I personally used to enjoy The Trinity getting stuck in.

Do seals have feet?

Navy seals do.

@WSC_magazine: West Brom v Aston Villa is a traditional rivalry glossed over nationally and stuck in Sky's "graveyard" slot http://t.co/xzkAimQKvx

As a kid growing up in south Brum it was never as significant as the Blues game because there were hardly any Albion fans at school - far more Liverpool and Forest fans at the time. Saying that the atmosphere at the games was always full on and there were some cracking matches. I don't think I've ever celebrated a goal like's Withies's after he lobbed in Batson's back pass.

Tommy Hitz's winner was well celebrated too, a great moment to be on the Holte.

Likewise I've lived/schooled/worked etc. in Solihull/Cov/Warks for the last 30 years and never met a Baggy in all that time, the only one I've ever met was at uni in Wales.  Plenty of Villa, Blues, Cov, Wolves, Man U, Liverpool etc etc etc, so it's never really registered on my radar as a grudge match.  Still i appreciate the history of the fixture and I look forward to it more than the Small Heath game which I dread.

Despite growing up and living in the Black Country for the best part of 32 years, i didn't know a Bitter until they got promoted. Still don't, if i'm being truthful, because most of them I do know are Facebook friends and didn't follow Albion in the years I knew them.

I met one when I was working in printing in the late 80s - was a nice enough bloke and even dropped me off near villa park one Saturday afternoon when I worked till 2 - miles out of his way !

Leaving for the Thornbush shortly. I really can not see any other result than a win for us.

call me ignorant but why are my tesco bags mates keep calling villa , the seals ?

Truth is, they don't know why they call us the seals!

It is because of the Trinity rumble in the 70s and 80s. Clapping like seals...just like they chant villa in a high pitched voice because of a game where tickets were given to local school kids who got behind the team by chanting villa incessantly in pre-pubic voices.

I rather like the seals jibe. It is original you have to give them that.

Its only original because no one has else has ever been stupid enough to think of such an unfunny jibe before. The fact that over several pages no-one here can actually explain why they think we are "seals" shows how un-cutting edge it is.
