I didn't see the game live so only have the extended highlights to go off from Sky so that may well colour what I say here but didn't we actually outplay them for the majority of the game? 2/3 times as many decent chances and a rare missed penalty so in my eyes this game could have easily gone the other way. I know Villa fans have a reputation for moaning but when you compare this game to the same fixture last season it feels like we have progressed quite a lot, in the space of one season I'm not sure if we can expect much more. Home results are a reason to worry, can't deny that, but we're playing better football, creating more chances and shipping less so all things are pointing towards an improved team and squad. I certainly won't be going into the next few games expecting to show relegation form as many on here are suggesting.

From the MOTD highlights I saw,Everton had by far the better chances.

Since when did MOTD show balanced highlights? Villa should have won and certainly not lost regardless of what highlights suggested.

I'm sorry but you're talking absolute bollocks.

We missed a penalty, two one-on-ones, and Gabby hit the keeper when unmarked 8 yards out.

For them, Brad made a great save from Lukaku's header and they worked two good goals which were both harder chances than any of the ones we spurned.  Other than that what better chances did Everton have by far?  I don't remember Brad making another save.

Outplay is probably too strong a word but we were definitely the better team for the majority of the game.  The Everton home game last season was disastrous - 3-0 down at half time, absolutely battered, and it could've been so much worse if Everton hadn't played the 2nd half at walking pace.  The two games are not directly comparable to be fair - last season they had Fellaini, a fully fit Pienaar, a fully fit Osman, and Neville across the midfield from the 1st minute and absolutely destroyed us in the middle of the park because Lambert went 442 against them.  On Saturday we had 3 central midfielders and their midfield wasn't as strong so we had the better of it.

But yes, you're right, it was a significant improvement, despite the result.
