I think we could have done with getting Barry in over the summer, I know this is with hindsight but we need an old head in the middle to replace Stan Petrov. Of course this goes against PL's policy but he showed his value today and it sounds like he wanted to come back to the Villa. Still think we will be ok.

Clark is championship player at best. Other teams must see our defence and laugh.

As I said the midfield balance was working and we were creating chances, but as soon as we went behind Lambert changed it and we became totally toothless. That's the most worrying thing, his substitutions very rarely cause a positive change for the team.

We had plenty of possession in Everton's final 3rd in the second half without creating much.  Can't really see why you'd criticise Lambert on trying something different.

Also there were quite a few on here last week that wanted Helenius and Benteke up front.

- Luna really is a terrible defender, I really think. His positioning is terrible
- Vlaar is looking good
- How about getting Lowton back in and have Bacuna as a right midfielder and Tonev on the left ? and then have Gabby and Benteke up front against West Ham. Meaning Weimann on the bench, he needs to be dropped/rested. Or Gabby on the left and then Sylla as an extra midfielder

We did create 3 good chances first half but I sometimes wonder if Lambert is watching same game as everyone else?

That lack of creativity in midfield is really telling, as is our apparent unwillingness to keep the ball for decent spells and build more patiently. However, we won't know what this all means until December, as we have four games next month which could all be classified as winnable.

I refuse to criticise either the attack or defence when the midfield is so woeful.

Westwood has contributed very little this season and Delph flatters to deceive.  Neither creates chances or scores.  Neither protects the defence well enough.

I don't fear the winter. Bring on the likes of Fulham, West Ham and Sunderland, Cardiff and West Brom. We will take more than ten points out of that lot.

We'll need them as well, but our home form must be addressed. It's unacceptable to lose week after week and be told the lads put in a lot of 'effort'. No more excuses for our home form.

Realistically that isn't going to happen i think 6/8 points is what we'll get.

I agree , sylla must come into the side - push bacuna and tonev both into wide midfield along with Delph and sylla and play 2 strikers , would try Kozak and benteke personally as gabby isn't prolific enough in front of goal - gabby and Weimann would be decent options to bring off the bench.

A tale of two strikers - Benteke is unfit and way off the pace . Lukaku - one chance - goal . House points for Vlaar , baker and Delph. A one legged, incontinent, epileptic with St. Vitus' dance bouncing on a trampoline has got more control than Gabby will ever have . Wiemann is anonymous , tonev is no better than Bowery and Westwood was measured against barry today - absolutely no comparison .

Because what he tried has failed repeatedly, if you don't have supply there's nothing the forwards can do.

Four out of those five were the top six, with bizzarely Newcastle being the poorest one of the lot.

We aren't good enough at home, but today for example, what more can Lambert do? Come on and take a penalty, finish Benteke and Andi's one on ones? Slot in Gabby's five yard sitter?

He could try a different system, this 4-3-3 with the same players is shit. So is reverting to the 4-2-4 hoof when we are chasing.

Barry was motm.

I'd probably agree with that

Not our policy at the moment I know.  But both Barry and Milner (probably) were available.  With these two we'd expect to pushing the top 6.

Would that have been a more expensive option over (say) 3 years than the players we've bought in who are no better than those that scraped through last season.?
