Where's Wally?
« on: October 01, 2013, 05:07:10 PM »
** Warning ** SHA content

At first glance this is just confirmation that 'Noses are shudderingly ugly -even in the '70s- note the guy bottom right on a day release from Middlefield.

However, look closely and you'll see an interloper has infiltrated their ranks and is trying to look mean and moody.
Anyone recognise themselves or know who it was ?

Looking at the face on the bloke behind him I'd be surprised if that brave villa soul was ever seen again  :o

That must of been the Witton End where the away fans went in those days. It's not St Andrew's judging by the claret crush barriers.

The colour of the barriers would indicate that it was taken at our place, and while there are many brickbats we can throw at the rags, when it comes to asthetic appearance, in my experience, we are on rather dodgy ground.

It's not the Witton, it didn't have crash barriers or a front fence like that.

I believe the Witton End just had a low wall at the front. That doesn't seem like a normal away crowd and it isn't either of their terraced sewers. The plot sickens.

Wasn't that photograph used on the cover of all Blues' home programmes in the 76/77 season?

I'm guessing it's the Witton End - September 1976 with a rogue Villa fan will has obviously lost the will to live standing in there with them.

The Witton had crush barriers that were circular in cross section. Those in the Lower North Stand were rectangular, like those in the original picture, but the terrace seems to go back too far.

It can't be the Lower North Stand as that only opened in August 1977.
