Too many of these players are underwhelming, technically. It's all well and good pointing at Benteke as a signing which has worked out excellently, but how many of the other cheap signings we made have worked out particularly well? This summer we needed to realise we'd come pretty close to going down, and do something about that by buying players from a level better than those we had got used to having. We didn't, though, we just bought more of the same. I can't see how repeatedly picking up cheap players is ever going to improve us sufficiently to move things on as much as they need to be moved on.He was unlucky to lose Okore to imjury for the season, but this lack of guile thing was our number one problem last season, and it doesn't look to me like we've done anything to try to improve it.
Defeat will be our worst start at home in 67 years - another unwanted stat
