It's just long balls which are a problem though. We're not negative like Allardyce's sides, nor nihilistically thuggish like Wimbledon or Pulis' Stoke. We just unnecessarily give the ball away by going long, which is frustrating and undoubtedly stupid.

If we go long and finish above 15th, I'll be very happy.

I just don't think that's good enough for Aston Villa.

Precisely. We're actually a pretty bad long ball team.

The centre backs aren't the problem really, are they. We struggle so much to stop balls getting delivered into the danger area, it's no wonder they end up conceding. We suck at defending the flanks.

I don't want to see us habitually playing it long under any circumstances.

I have to say it but apart from maybe 3 players, this is a terrible side Lamberts has assembled, fair do's his hand have been tied.

Stop kicking the fucking ball away Villa, our midfield is far far too deep. If you want to play this three, then Delph has to play in front of the other two.

Me neither.  What a depressing mindset!

Have they ? He must have spent about £30m in total - a lot more than many sides above us have spent in the last 18 months.
