Quote from:  official website
Christian Benteke has been ruled out of tomorrow's clash against Tottenham - as Paul Lambert prepares to ring the changes for the Capital One Cup tie.

Benteke leads a lengthy casualty list after being forced out of Saturday's game at Norwich with a hip flexor injury.

The Belgian striker is awaiting the results of a scan to determine the length of his absence.

Lambert revealed up to eight players - including Ashley Westwood, Antonio Luna, Gary Gardner and Chris Herd - are carrying knocks going into the Spurs showdown.

In addition, Gabby Agbonlahor, Fabian Delph and Ciaran Clark played through the pain barrier in the victory at Carrow Road.

It means the Villa boss is likely to make several changes against Tottenham.

Asked about the extent of Benteke's injury, he said: "We don't know yet. We are waiting for the scan today and then waiting for the results so we will just have to wait and see.

"I can't comment on something I don't know about until the results come back and then we will know what is happening.

"If you look at his injury he has actually slipped at that moment.

"I'm not a doctor but we will have to wait until the results come back and speak to the relevant people that we think are the best in that field.

"You are sitting hoping it is going to be pretty quick but you don't know and I have to wait and see when I get a call later to see what everybody's thinking."

On the other players carrying knocks, the manager added: "It is not just Christian that took a knock.

"There are a right few lads that are hobbling about at the minute. But we have to get them going again.

"Luna took a bad one and stayed with it which was great for the team.

"Even Gabby wasn't fully fit and we had to throw him in. Fabian was the same and Ciaran is another one. The lads did brilliantly for us on Saturday.

"I've got to make changes for tomorrow, that's for sure, because I've got a lot of injuries at the minute and Saturday's [game against Manchester City] is massive for us as well."

If Villa have to put out a youth team, well, been there, done that. All last season. :)

Look on our works ye mighty (and Spurs) and despair!

if we go into the game with just two in central midfield we will get striped. I'd go 4-3-3, play a much changed team and still win by a street.

Steer
Lowton Donacien Baker, Bennett
Sylla, Westwood, KEA
Weimann, Kayak, Helenius

Don't like it...all this news of injuries and hints from VP of big changes but if that means we have beat Spuds with our second team than so be it.

Althought they got a decent squad to choose from they have played a few games in quick succession and have a few more coming up so may be feeling it. If we can stay level by FT we'll win on ET but it will be close.

Agree Albrighton should get a run-out.

It will be their second team as well, pretty much.

Which will be a lot stronger than ours.  I agree that anyone struggling should probably be rested and calls for Albrighton.  I'd maybe look at something like:

              Guzan

Bacuna   Vlaar   Baker   Bennett

Albrighton  KEA   Sylla    Tonev

         Weimann  Kozak
