If Okore is out for a prelonged period of time we're in trouble.

I'm not a big fan of Clark as a centre half but i think he's done ok this season. Okore would be a miss though.

Basically we still have the same team that struggled for 90% of last season playing this season. Crap summer.

And without Okore! Rumours on VT that the knee injury is worse than first thought with a possible 6 month lay-off! I hope that's untrue.

what makes my blood boil is he should never have been in that position to start  . A villa player  stupidly  gave the ball away seconds before which put us in danger . If the professional player had actually kept possession , which nobody seemed to be able to do on Saturday, we might still have a fit Okore .

Its a shame because he seems the only player we bought in the summer who would actually start in this team .

When Baker stepped in for Clark last season we improved slightly, just enough to take us over the line. Okore would be my first choice, Baker second but if we have Clark in that position again for any length of time I think we are in for a long, hard season.

so what are the other poor performances this season then?

I guess you're going to bring up that we've been shit at home for years, which is true, but also has very bearing on our performances this season, other than maybe a mental factor of the players being scared of playing at home.  Otherwise you're judging this squad on the performances of previous squads, which is pretty unfair.

Last season was littered with performances like the Newcastle one. You must have your head firmly buried in the ground if you can't see that.

We seemed to ahve turned a corner with recent performances, even if results weren't matching them, but this was a relapse to what we saw for large prtions of last season.  Whether it's just a blip or not we'll find out at Norwich.

Last season we were a couple of results away from relegation and the same the season before.

All around us teams have improved, changed managers, tactics etc... what we have to look at is have we moved on enough to compete with the other teams around us.

Have Lamberts tactics that were proved at times to be nightmarish last season adapted enough to make us a better team.

Can we expect to get results agains teams like Everton, Stoke, Swansea, Fulham, West Ham, Fulham and Norwich? We have already lost to Liverpool, Chelsea, and Newcastle and I struggle to see us getting much out of Man City, Many Utd, Spurs or the visit of Arsenal.

So I am concerned about this season but I hope that its still too early to really get an idea of how we will perform, we just have to hope that Lambert can bring about the changes that we can see that we need

What we needed amongst other things on Saturday was a midfielder general who could hold up the ball, spray accurate passes to the forwards and make last ditch tackles to prevent goals. Who was Everton's man of the match on Saturday? A certain Gareth Barry who I'm sure would have loved to come to the Villa on loan. Instead we spend money on two more 6' + forwards. Priorities!

There is a picture of Jack woodward on the clubs official twitter feed at the team photo. Okore is in the background and looks like he is on crutches although its hard to see clearly.

If he has an ACL injury then that would explain why he tried to play on although he looked in pain when he was on the ground when being treated by the physio. Horrible injury for a young player if true.

I'll be really concerned if we don't play like all think we can next week at Norwich. If we really are a counter attacking team then we need to start making the away days count while we work on the problems at Villa Park. If we start getting done away then we will be in trouble.

Last season was littered with performances like the Newcastle one. You must have your head firmly buried in the ground if you can't see that.

This was a wind up right?  Or did you completely ignore the bit I've put in bold?

The next post after yours summed it up.

We seemed to ahve turned a corner with recent performances, even if results weren't matching them, but this was a relapse to what we saw for large prtions of last season.  Whether it's just a blip or not we'll find out at Norwich.

So, I stand by my assertion that a lot of the negative comments on here are effectively coming after 1 poor performance.  If we're this poor again in the next couple of games then we might be seeing a repeat of the last few years but 4 good performances and 1 bad (in my opinion at least) is the evidence we have to judge this squad on, and I don't think many of the comments in this thread are using that sample but instead are, as mentioned, judging things on the basis of last year.

Clark is a liability. He is not a Premiership player. Neither is Baker but he is marginally better. Clark's actions practically gives the opposition a goal start.

We need to put Sylla in midfield to offer some protection.
