Delph is the only positive.
Putting big men up front and not using the midfield will maybe work one in ten games, it's not a way to get back into the game.
I must say the oft trotted out comparisons with the Dortmund way of doing things baffle me though. Day 1 Lesson 1 in any German blueprint for success would include the importance of structure: sound defence and organization. He spent one year of his life there, one season out of a 20 + season career. I don't doubt that Hitzfeld would have been a positive influence to learn from- even for that relatively short window in time. Maybe he was out of the room whenever defensive planning was being discussed. That, and the approach to going after sides at home with a bit of nous and creativity.
The alarm bells were ringing in the first 20-30 minutes against Rotherham where we failed to take control of the game and allowed a very poor team all the time in the world to pass the ball about, have a few dangerous attacks whilst we chased shadows. Today against better opposition we got punished.I'm not sure what Lambert has in mind tactically, I really expect much more from him than gung-ho, counter attacking football. It's great when it works but we're leaving ourselves too open, we don't dictate the game from midfield, we don't seem to have a Plan B other than hoofing it up front. The last manager that played that way had a piss poor record at Villa Park and I just hope Lambert has more too him than that, otherwise we really are fcuked.Today was bloody embarrassing. He needs to fucking wake up and quickly find a way to start winning games at Villa Park or it's going to be a very long season.
Well wasn't that just the pits. As bad as anything from last season. Our defence is just plain awful.
