Istanbul should have got it...disappointed somewhat...no real reason other than Tokyo have had it in my lifetime.

Shame that world ( or  to be more accurate dodgy IOC delegates) have ignored the merits of a great city like Intanbul and opted for stale old dreadful metropolis like Tokyo. There is nothing progressive or aspirational in this decision.

Sorry I don't get that? Olympics possible to Instanbul and farcical decision for 2022 World Cup have nothing in common and in any case two events are completely different.

I haven't seen anything of the details of the bids to comment on the merits of either, but the situation next door in Syria in recent months can't have helped.

Along with the Tingha and Tucka Club, the 1964 Olympics were one of my first TV memories. Will they have the same music ?

Tokyo is a magnificent city with fantastic people and they fully deserve it.  Can't wait to see what they do with it.  Istanbul would have been good too, just glad that Madrid didn't get it.

I really don't know what's good about Tokyo but  yes people are fine even if have not apologised about  their nation's atrocities in Burma during the WWII.

That could be a factor however I doubt if your average IOC delegate cares much about that and in any case we may have peace in the world in 7 years time!

The Olympics slogan will probably be "Tokyo radiation free since 2017" (c) Danny Baker.

Tokyo is a concrete hell hole of a place that makes Blade Runner look homely.
