I get the impress a lot of celebrities use football to appear to have the common touch. I think with Nige it's genuine.

He was a football fan before it became popular to be one so I doubt it is band-wagon jumping.

Decent bloke who has time for the normal fans and in no way looks at himself as a star fan - he is happy to be one of us and  a real down to earth good guy.

Anybody who paints their Jag claret and blue for a cup final, with a paint brush is good in my book. Villa 3- Manure 1. Ask him.

I thought it was a BMW, not a jag. And I thought it was a few years before that because I saw it at at least one away game. Unless he painted a Jag too. Fair play to him either way.

I read it and couldn't get the thought of Ben Elton doing his youth TV presenter out of my head. Be honest, if he wasn't a Villa supporter most on here would think he's a bit of a dick!

I'd think he was making previously elitist music accessible and good luck to him for it.

It was a jag.

He had both a jag and a BMW that he painted claret and blue.

Does he still not want to go down until we start spending the cash?

He was a football fan before it became popular to be one so I doubt it is band-wagon jumping.

Exactly. The first time he entered my consciousness was when he picked up some award - a Brit? - in 1986 and said that the only thing that would make him happier was the Villa winning the Milk Cup. Anyone who was flaunting their love of football in the mid-80s was not doing it to be cool and, if anything, were setting themselves up as a social pariah.

Met him at St Mary's last season in the 1-4 game the highlight of the day for me.
Previously met him in Birmingham about 88/89 when he had the jag and he pulled over and shook hands with us as we were wearing villa tops .

Met him a few times whilst selling H&V. Always polite, friendly and ready for a chat.
