He is picking up his 150k a week whether he plays or not so at least his family are taken care of.

True enough. But when he's old and grey will he look back and think of all those good memories of opening his online bank statement? Footballers have very short careers - selling one for a healthy bank account is pretty distasteful to me.

It is when what he was earning here would have probably lasted him for the rest of his days anyway.

I was taking the piss slightly as one of his comments about leaving was to take care of his family in the future which seemed to indicate money was the only motive.

You say that, but while it would have lasted us mere mortals, when you have a Premier League lifestyle you don't want it to drop when you're no longer in the Premier League so you'd want to maximise your earnings for as long as possible.

We were still in the Premier League when he left though. I kind of understand why he moved but he was never going to get much game time there.

He probably believed he was good enough to be a regular. You don't reach this level as a footballer without massive self belief and confidence.

There's self confidence and then there's outright delusion.  Who was in their midfield when he went?  Toure, Fernando, DeBruyne, Silva, Fernandinho, Nasri, Sterling - I'm amazed he got as many games there as he has.

Injury prone player who thinks he is better than he actually is ........ yes he was good for us but in a very poor side

But it isn't really a delusion to them. I'd bet most PL players believe they are good enough to play for Man City etc. Even if we don't. Their whole lives they'll have been told how good they are etc. As I said, it is self belief, confidence and so on in their own ability. If a player doesn't have those the odds are they won't make it to this level in the first place.

I agree PWS. In his mind when he goes there he thinks he's going to break into the first team, win the league etc. Where does delusional end and ambitious begin?

He's still a ****** mind.

Lets not be churlish, if he was crap nobody would have given a toss about him leaving.
We supported him through his injury time.
He was certainly our best creative driving midfielder.
That does not excuse this Snakey, two faced , snot gobbling, backstabbing, Bastard for his manner of leaving.
We have lost many class acts over the years, but few have matched this egotistical, lying ****** for his callous, devious, treachery.
Ian Taylor should take him to one side, explain the problem to the twat and then give him a good Kicking.
On that note, a merry Christmas to all the Villiains  on the site tonight

Its a real pity that his move was so messy because it was right move for him. Cleverley had gone, Benteke also, Vlaar was moving on and we needed another rebuild, He had not just broke into the England squad but was becoming a regular in the team. Then the Champions *I think) wanted him. Yes the breakaway was unfortunate and messy but no I wish(ed) him all the best and good luck to him. Of course he knew he wouldn't be an automatic first choice but 99.9% woyld, and shpul, have taken the move for the sake of their careers. Of course the money is also nice.

I had no problem with him going to Man. City.

Him changing his mind 500 times in 2 weeks and giving false hope to the fans I very much did have a problem with.

I had far more of an issue with the club leading us up the garden path in the January than I did with him choosing to leave in the summer, even though he did make a meal if it as you say.

I agree that bit was shabbily handled. But as I've said before its never as straightforward as we think. As I've also mentioned - my one and onlt ITK is a bloke who is head of recruitment at Man City who also said that it wasn't as straight forward as him just changing his mind. He also said he'd introduce me to Delph when we we last played at the new Maine Rd and give me the full ins and outs of the move.  Unfortunately he did ask me a few days before the game if I wanted to go but I couldn't make it. We're still in touch but not as much as I'm overseas again. But I will get the full story one day. Probably be yesterday's news by then, though.
