We didn't push Delph into leaving at all. He was apparently contorted a bit on whether to stay or not and it was he who offered to have a cheap release clause he didn't need to. But to suggest he was forced into going to Citeh is bollocks.

I said of Delph, when he was being derided as a waste of money by many on here, that the type of player he is needs to play week in, week out.  If they don't get that they look half a yard short and end up lunging into tackles, picking up injuries and bookings and looking out of their depth.  All of the good form he showed with Villa came after he'd had 5-6 games getting up to speed and it took him 3-4 years to establish himself because he could never get that run going.

At Man City he's been a bit part player and he's back to picking up injuries and unnecessary bookies.  That's why I thought going there was a mistake and I think it will, in the longer term, do a lot of damage to his career (much like I think he'd have been a much better player if we'd loaned him straight out to a championship club after we signed him).

The idea that we forced Delph out to save money, before going on to spunk 55 million pound on overpriced Frenchmen (on meaty wages) is utterly ludicrous. Delph is 110% serpent and a pox upon him. His abject failure at City is not remotely surprising either. I thought he was best looking good for a struggling club. He's a mid-table player at best because he can't pass or control a ball and if you can't do that, you'll never be a top midfielder. City will cash in and buy another average English player to replace him to keep up their home grown quota. Delph is firmly in the Rodwell /Sinclair/Johnson camp and a country mile from being a Barry/Milner.

You look at some of these English players that went to Man City to sit on the bench and pad out their treasure chests whilst playing a couple of games every few months,  most of them never really recovered from it did they? Hopefully neither does Delph.

It was so obvious what would happen to him.
He has become a very rich man but a worse footballer.
