Arsenal will be hoping Citeh will play Delph against them this season so their players can run past him like he wasn't there.  Kinda like the FA Cup. Delph and the rest of our team were shown up for what they are that day. Shit themselves when they realised they were boys against men. Citeh have a goodish squad player on their hands. But don't expect him to step up to the plate on the big occasion.
Sadly it appears we played that final and the spine of the team possibly all knew it was their last game at the club (& played like they couldn't give a fuck) - given vlaar Delph benteke

Playing catch up, so I know that this is a relatively old post, but really? Professional players with a chance to win an FA Cup winners medal played with no interest because they wouldn't be here in August?

Even for you that's a pretty impressive stretch.

I wouldn't say they took the pitch with that mindset, but once the game was going away from them one or two took on the appearance of not trying too hard, and maybe in the back of their mind maybe that dark thought of "fuck it, I'm off anyway" crept in.

Now that I can agree more with.
Without going over the whole sorry episode in detail again, I think that the moment the second goal went in they knew the game was up, but there's a world of difference in working to keep in the game, but being too shit to do anything about it for 50 minutes and not being arsed from the start, which is how Silhil's post reads to me.

That's the point yes. 5 of that starting XI who gave one of the limpest ever cup final appearances in the history of the FA Cup are all out of the club now.

Well in that context you should be turning cartwheels, if half of the team that (dis)graced the final are banished from B6.

For what it's worth I think this is inadvertently a fantastic opportunity to rip it all up and start from scratch. Of the players sold or released, from a purely footballing perspective as individual cases, the only one I'll be sad to see in another shirt is Benteke if his move goes through.

Especially with what's happened around the rest of the squad we'd be better with Delph than without him, but after that it's all a bit "whatever".

Delph is still a duplicitous weasel with the contract mind

The whole shenanigans about the go-stay-go (lack of) decision over the last week I could sort of understand as a young bloke with a huge decision to make, but drop the bloody statements. If he'd said nothing last weekend, it would have just looked like things dragging on. Either he had doubts from the off (in which case why say anything), or something else changed (several people are saying his personal terms are unaltered)

Maybe it's a curse of the social media age that he felt to do something that was utterly unnecessary, but if you go back to Platt or Yorke, we have no idea how much back and forth and changing of minds there was (probably none I'll grant you)

The bit that sticks in my throat the most is that bollocks on the big screen to announce the new contract, knowing that he'd got a release clause that was as open an invitation to come and get him as an MP looking for "extra experience" ends up as a cosy little non-exec directorship or two.

For that Delph deserves every ounce of bile and ridicule that's coming and the club deserves every bit of criticism it receives for either it's naivety or shamelessness in broadcasting it.
(The damage with the contract having been done by not getting it sorted the previous summer when be was virtually asking to sign up again according to some reports.)

Why is this thread still open?

For reasons of collective catharsis.

He'd be wise to avoid wasting time by going immediately to Norwich on a season long loan, before signing for Everton on a permenant deal in a bid to regain his England place. He has zero chance of making an impact at city, because he won't be playing

“Leaving Aston Villa Football Club is the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make,” Delph said. “I’ve had some amazing times and made some great friends during my time at the club and I’ll always be thankful to them for giving me the opportunity to play in the Premier League.

Not just an opportunity you arsehole we stood by you when you were injured for months and months and than useless for a while longer. You have good six months get an England cap  due to playing for us and you do this c***!

im very disappointed he's gone and the way in which it happened has left a sour taste
yet he's moving closer to his home, doubling his money and playing with better players and may actually win something so
I can't blame the bloke and won't be booing him when he returns to vp

“As has been widely reported I initially turned down the opportunity to join Manchester City. That decision was purely down to the love I have for Aston Villa and its great supporters.
Yes love that you very impressively  confirmed by signing a contract in January doubling your wages and insisting on a next to nothing release fee clause...THIS IS NOT LOVE YOU WANKER.

“When I was made captain of Villa it was a huge honour for me and I took the responsibility incredibly seriously. I signed my new contract last season with the view of staying at the club for the duration of the deal and never with the intention to leave a year later.
This is fucking incredible. What moron  on this earth  has  an intention to stay at a club for duration of a 5 year deal but insist on a very low release fee? and of yes leave twice within a week...

I owe it to myself to take the challenge of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world in Manchester City.

Nope. Despite their gazillions I cannot get used to phrases like that.

It's like something from a well known computer game.

Northwich Victoria sweep Real Madrid aside to win treble....
