After few hours now ive calmed down a lot and am now feeling much more upbeat. If Benteke and that other bloke hadn't have left we'd probably be spending about £20m on players like Adebayor, Townsend etc. So would have been left with pretty much the same team we've had the last few years. Now we should, SHOULD, have around £55m to spend which hopefully will get us 7 or 8 of these continental fellas we've been linked with, giving us a new looking team altogether. Out of these we may get a Tonev or Helenius, but we could also get a Benteke or two hopefully. In strange way looking forward to next season more now than I was week or so back.

I admire the optimism, but in the past couple of weeks we have seen a proposed takeover fail to materialise, our best defender and midfielder leave the club and our star striker looking like he is soon to follow them out of the door.  A four blow combination that I would have thought has left most fans reeling.

The last week has been a total disaster. We can slag off Delph all we like but truth is we've lost a very important player for next to nothing and we've been made to look like mugs in the process.

The lack of a takeover is crushing tbh, we desperately, desperately need invigoration and it just ain't going to happen under Lerner.

Now Tekkers if off to 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' of all places.  I usually enjoy the off season weekends before the defeats start up again up.  Fed up.

Ho Hum....While our club (and us I s'pose) look a little bit foolish after yesterday's events, we do at least have the best part of £40 million quid to rejuvenate what was a moribund squad. The sheer paucity of our football has been a despair to behold over the last 4 or 5 years, so at least TS can bring in this much feted 'winning mentality' of his...Vamos a ver...Can't say I'm too hopeful, but you never know...

good listen Dave.

You are right too, there are better players than Delph available. Not sure about Benteke - it would be a lottery win finding one.

To be fair though or best defender has been replaced by someone i think will be better (Richards) our best midfielder has been replaced by someone who could be better (Gueye) and we already have someone at the club that could end up being better (Sanchez). We look like we might have signed a proper left back that could be the best we've had for years (Amavi). Benteke admittedly will be a massive loss but Kozac is coming back and will give us a boost, and with 4 in and 3 out we will have about £18m profit. I'm sure Lerner will add a bit to that with the new TV deal so we may still have maybe £35 left for another 3 players, a striker, defender and either another defender or holding midfielder. Add to that a better manager in charge and i think we'll do better next season, as long as we don't get shit loads of injuries. The wide player/creative options look good with Gill, Cole (if fit), Sinclair, Grealish and Bacuna on board all potentially very good players.
The takeover going flat is a pisser though i agree, but i wouldn't get depressed about it, there has been a lot more activity in recent months and i'm sure we will be sold soon enough.

Whatever the reason, I'm very happy and may have had a little faith restored with FD and the world.
Not all footballers are money grabbing w@nkers.
I didn't realise he had left as I was watching the golf...I've changed my views with regard to the above quote.

Most are though.

It's a new era of Villa,
new manager, new assistants, new players the side will look a lot different next season

Benteke is irreplaceable we will just have to play a different way and make up for the loss in other ways,
If Sherwood can put something together out of this, losing his 3 best players from attack, midfield and defence he could be the messiah we have been waiting for, but it's a big ask obviously

It's a pity this new era didn't start with a new owner as this one has been a disaster for the club.

If the owner was to be a good one I would agree

But new ownership has always scared me to death,
I don't think there is a massively rich billionaire who wants to throw money at us for fun , and so I reckon there is a less than 50/50 chance we would end up with a owner that would make things a whole lot better,
and my fear is they could be massive wankers and do the stuff you see happening at other clubs, but maybe that's just me being a bit paranoid

Just read the club statement again re Delph, and it states they would 'like' to wish him success in his future career.
I guess they are the same as us in reality they would 'like' to say thanks for being an absolute twat for dropping us in it MON style and we hope you do fuck all in your future career!

Excuse my ignorance. There are those among us with financial and accountancy expertise who may be able to clarify the issue but I am wondering what the actual cost to the club was when we agreed to Delph signing a new contract with the derisory valuation of him written into it.   Did he get a pay rise with immediate effect when he signed? Did he get a loyalty bonus?   Did he get any kind of financial inducement to stay?  Would there not have been the option for the club to resist the rock bottom value Delph placed on himself?  Was he offered more money after his first U turn?

Yes, but all that would then happen is he leaves for free rather than for £8m.

I think in time we will look back and realise that this week has not been a disaster. Delph good player but not great just looked better than he was in a poor ream.  Benteke on his day can be the best there is but too many times it simply is not his day. Hopefully Sherwood can bring good players in. Remember at this moment in time we don't need players that can challenge the top 4 , we need players who can challenge the top 10. I relish the thought of seeing Man city at the park because one day as they say....he who laughs last , laughs longest.
