“I spoke with Joe Hart when I was with him for England and he was always been telling me how the Club has come on and what City are trying to achieve - and Micah Richards told me that as far as he is concerned, this is the best club in the world and he had the time of his life here."

What a tosser

It's the same every fucking time we get a player in the England squad they chat to players at City ,United etc and they fuck off ...

Thanks Micah.

what did you expect him to say? He was hardly going to tell him it is shit there and winning cups/titles and competing in the CL is awful.

I am not blaming the club.   They have been decent and fair and honourable in their dealings in a world of freeloaders and snake oil salesmen.  If we are not to have more Delph debacles we have to start playing by the same ruthless standards of self interest as all the others.

Agreed Brian, starting with Liverpool.  We should not accept anything but the full payment, up front prior to any transfer being allowed to proceed.  Benteke can throw his toys out of the pram all he likes, Villa are not denying any transfer just doing what's best for themselves.  We appear to be too easily bullied.  It has to stop.

I said on a previous thread that some people on here owed Delph an apology. I was wrong. He has shown what kind of man he actually is.

Delph rubbing it in a bit with that comment. No mention of hi time at Villa, think it might be a while before the fallout finally comes out

Gary Shaw gave back in abundance, as did Brian Little and Gordon Cowans.   Stylian gave far more than he took.  Libor Kozak is an unknown quantity and the jury must remain out to see if we ever recoup any value from him and Gary Gardner showed enough promise to continue to invest in his future.   I am talking about players who take the piss, not players who sustain long term injuries.

How to we do that in the context of Delph?

“Leaving Aston Villa Football Club is the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make,” Delph said. “I’ve had some amazing times and made some great friends during my time at the club and I’ll always be thankful to them for giving me the opportunity to play in the Premier League.

“As has been widely reported I initially turned down the opportunity to join Manchester City. That decision was purely down to the love I have for Aston Villa and its great supporters.

“When I was made captain of Villa it was a huge honour for me and I took the responsibility incredibly seriously. I signed my new contract last season with the view of staying at the club for the duration of the deal and never with the intention to leave a year later.

“My decision to stay initially was purely based on the emotion and feelings that I hold for the club and the people there that I would be walking away from - rather than looking at the football opportunity that had been placed in front of me.

“I’ve experienced some incredible low times in my career with injuries and at one point even questioned whether I would even return to Premiership level. Despite that, I’ve always been 100% committed to improving my game and developing as a player and a person.

“As a kid watching the game on TV and then as a young footballer you dream about testing yourself against the best in the world, to compete for major trophies and to play in the Champions League. I’ve proved that I can play at the very top level with England and believe I owe it to myself to take the challenge of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world in Manchester City.

“I have been immensely proud to captain such a great club and want to thank everyone at Aston Villa - most importantly the fans - for the amazing support they have shown me during my time there.

“I am now excited for the future with Manchester City and helping the club to succeed in the coming season and beyond.”

I am angry at Delph but much more just very sad at what football has become.

Delph just got given a 5 year deal on Man City wages. In effect he has just become independently wealthy in his mid twenties and no longer has to worry about his career or making a living ever again. I wish i could say I would have turned that down but, well I doubt I would.

Its just sad that football has become so corrupt (and I think thats a fair word) that this is the norm.
