Pompous prick alert.  Thing is we now live in a society where money is the be all and end all of everything.   As my son put it, there is no shame, there is no pride any more.   Success is measured only in pounds, shilling and pence.

Brian we now have decimal currency!  But I know what you mean, there are no personal standards. It is all money, money, money in the rich mans world.

It's easy to blame it on the love of money though. If Villa had shown a bit of ambition over these last 5 years instead of just concentrating on staying in the league then perhaps our better players would want to stay a bit longer.
One man is to blame for our demise in the game and it's Randy Lerner.

Just trying to play devil's advocate for a moment - because I'm as disappointed in Delph as anyone - but no matter how much you already earn, how easy would it be to turn down an extra £5m per year for any of us?

The money/greed thing incenses me a lot less than the fact that he came out and made the statements he did.

Have you noticed despite a world record number of high profile bods coming in behind the scenes not one has the decency to make a statement about this unsavoury turn of events this afternoon. Same applies re the proposed takeover. Just Sherwood who should not be placed in a position to comment.

Where are you Tom Fox?

How about Villa showing a bit of ambition for a change?

The love of money

But we arnt talking a few shillings here

Over the next 4 years City will be paying him 20-30 million pounds more than Villa, you got to really love a club to turn that sort of dough down
I bet it's never happened before

It's the statements that make the whole thing difficult to swallow,
I have said enough times on here I don't really believe anything they say, even when Delph came out with his latest ' I am staying' thing I took no notice,
but I can see why people get upset when they think they have been led up the garden path

Delph leaving is very sad.   Benteke leaving is also very sad but for me these episodes are no more than the inevitable aftershocks of a truly awful season and an even more awful cup final.

When the final whistle put us out of our misery at Wembley I had the overwhelming feeling of a curtain coming down on everything that has happened since the departure of Martin O'Neill.   The slate has to be wiped clean.   The mighty oak that was Aston Villa keeled over and died.   A new young tree has to be planted and tended.   Without Benteke and Delph we are not going to grow much next season but what growth there is will be strong and healthy.  All we can do is keep the faith and hope that those who run and manage the club have learned from the blows we the fans have had to suffer over the last five years.

Poetically put Brian

If Doug still owned the club Benteke would have been sold for £12 million to Sunderland two years ago and Delph would have been sold for £3 million to Leicester when he was in his human windmill phase. Grealish would be being lined up for a sale to Stoke for £2 million.

Today I have learned that I am a bad person. I'm pretty sure only a bad person could wish the things on this man, and I use the term loosely, that I am currently wishing.

My wife has just left the job she loves for another that pays 30% less because the folks running it aren't utter bastards
